IK Multimedia TONEX

Nice, I’d like some good MkV captures. ;-)

The capture signal is loud as fuck though, so make sure no one is home!

Try this on for size. It's a 90W Mark V Crunch channel. Just made this V2 (is that what we are calling these now) Captured without a Cab but I've added an IR of a V30 4x12 Mesa Oversized Cab that sounds great with this Capture. They are both in this zip file on my dropbox. No viruses Brah... :rofl

Thats's my kinda post EQ :clint

Tonex V1 captures were great already, they didn't start to suck the minute V2 was released. imho : who makes the capture is more important than the technology. I would rather use my own captures (or someone else captures with similar tastes than me) made with an Headrush Prime or Mooer GS1000 that someone else' captures with Tonex or NAM. The current Kemper capture technology is nous considered outdated, but the great Kemper profiles are still sounding great. But that's just me.
Yes, but i have done some great personal captures of my amps and doing them again with V2 they feel far better, IMO.

I just cant see my self buying anything V1 now. Feels like wating money on old tech, with all do respect.

I managed to get exactly the kind of lead tone I was going for on a track with Tonex a few months after the initial release. It was a free capture of a JP2C and then another free capture of an OD I put before it. Other than that I’ve not found any real use for it except noodling and toggling through captures.

Since everyone is always raving about Marks here, Marks there I’d like to find that tone again and understand better what was so good about it.

I’ve tried to find something similar with NAM but no dice (yet) and sifting through captures will always suck.

I listened to some clips of the ENGL pack and for ridiculously high gain, to my ears there is something off on V1 captures. I might be biased, my ears are probably shit and it’s all subjective but I do think those kinds of captures are noticeably better when done with V2. Lower gain is probably harder to tell apart for me.

And yes, your own captures will probably be what you prefer always. :-)
That they were indeed made with V2 illustrates what I said. I don't like them either, at least in the demo video, I don't like what I hear. I've yet to try the pack in demo mode within the app. If I never owned a proper Engl amp, a friend have one, and I have two Synergy Engl modules, and I made V1 captures with my own IRs, and I really like them :

The rhythm tracks here are my Savage and Powerball Synergy modules.
Of course, I'll make new V2 captures, but I doubt these will stop sounding great to my ears!

IMO, its not a good pack, i didnt like 1 capture. And as you said, its not about the V, its about how they set up the amp and the signal chain.

ENGL themselves captured these...

Edit - for what it is worth, though, I've really only used the Straight for any great length (and I do enjoy it a lot) so I'm a weirdo :)

Hey man, that DI capture is awesome! Thank you!! I was able to get this one dialed in on my rig fairly easily.

LP>Tonex Pedal w/ >Marshall Origin 50H return>412 w/ G12T-75's

You got any more I can try that hits a little harder?

Mark IV Mode, same sliders as the other one.

Hit this (and the other one) with a boost if you want. Pretty juicy.

Tried these quickly and they sounded useful, so thanks for sharing! Worked really well with a boost in front and goosing the gain in the capture.

Also went through and actually played the ENGL amp pack. They really should have gotten in touch with @GuitarJon or someone similar who knows how to capture amps. There is the same weird tone signature as IK’s own old captures that just sounds bland to me. I’d be stoked if they were better and I’m hoping they can do an improved Vol.2 in the future. My guess is that their thinking will be ”this wasn’t worthwhile so let’s skip it” unfortunately.

I spent some more time with the amalgam V2 caps last night, this time with a Tele with vintage single coils. It does feel like there is new sauce in V2.

The real test will be how well it captures from my amps, and I’m still trying to find time to attempt a V2 capture.

ENGL captured their amps, and I'm pretty sure they know how to mic and capture their amps. They were well-versed in the process. Having a negative opinion of the Tone Models is something to which anybody is entitled but acting like ENGL didn't know how to mic and capture an amp is a bit insulting.
