Also keep in mind, for Kemper there is a refinement process that takes manual intervention by the one doing the profile, and not sure how much time Michael spent for that. On top of that, there is the liquid profile option on Kemper, and IMO the LPs do have an edge when tweaking a little.

The refinement is so hit and miss, and often just gives a different flavour of “wrong”. Other platforms get much closer without needing a refinining stage.

What’s worse is the deep parameters that Kemper offers - adjusting those usually leads to very odd and un-realistic tones. Liquid profiling was enough for me to lose faith in Kemper all together, it does not sound good.

I think Michael has been making kemper profiles long enough to know what he’s doing, and it’s in his interest to make them as good as he can. He can’t really do anything about a Kemper showing its age.

None of that makes the Kemper competitive with even the budget competition these days.

Yeah, Kemper either needs to come out with a new unit, or figure out how to utilize a Kemper in conjunction with a computer and ML to get get better, more accurate models.

Ok, so I’m about fifteen minutes in and all I’m hearing is a guy who is obviously incompetent in regards to how to use his audio interface and installing/configuring plugins. There are countless TONEX users out there that are capable of installing and configuring the software. He’s placing the blame and calling out these companies in front of thousands of viewers when it’s 100% on him. Period.

I've been really impressed with my Tonex OG pedal and listening to that demo my clear favourites were the Tonex and the Kemper for capturing the tone of the amp best. In the blind test I picked out the three that reflected this - the actual amp, Tonex and Kemper.

Interesting video, cheers. The Headrush was clearly the weak link to my ears.

Well I agree that the Tonex Software is a mess UX wise. That said, I can work my way around it somehow. And I have to say, those Brown Sound Presets are well worth it!!

Andy isn’t exactly a beginner with this stuff and most certainly has more real world, working knowledge of plugin use in professional settings than anyone on this forum.

I started with Tonex for Windows and then moved to a Mac a couple years ago when I won a SuperBowl squares pool literally the day before my Windows laptop went tits up. Anyway, getting everything working on a Mac when it had been 20 years since my last Mac took a few minutes. It was super easy compared to dealing with Windows routing.

If he spent from 9 am until 3 pm trying to get it working I am just baffled.

The issues with the software were around how basic tasks were unintuitive or took way too many steps. They have made major progress with that, especially with the release of the editor which allows you to actually change stuff on the pedal in real time while using a laptop...something that should have been ready while the pedal was still in beta.

There are still plenty of less than ideal UI issues that are annoying, but I have not run into anything that would keep it from working. That sounds like an OS issue, a compatibility issue with other stuff he is running, or an issue with how he is trying to get different stuff to work together his way.

So did the software get good? Nope, not yet and there is a long ways to go as far as UI and user experience, but once you have a preset loaded and tweaked, it sounds great and is very usable.
