I don't think they have moved production of the V30 back to the UK.I bought a used G12T75 the other day to see what the online hate is all about.
I probably bought in one of the undesirable 2020/2021 V30s right before they moved production back to the UK. I think it has the extra upper mids that others have observed. I didn't like the speaker until I dropped it into a deeper cab, and it reignited my interest in V30s again. All of John Brown's videos have been very informative.
I now see it's only the GB, H30, and CL80 that got moved back.I don't think they have moved production of the V30 back to the UK.
As with all things tonal, one’s “strident mids” are another’s “cuts through like a knife” etc. totally agree. Find what works in your context and keep it.My suggestion - find a cab you love the sound of, don't rag the speakers so hard that you destroy them. Keep using it until it dies. Find another. Rinse, repeat.
I love my Egnater Tourmaster cab. It aint nowt special. Chinese V30's. It sounds killer.
I like the brighter V30 in the room, but recorded with a SM57 is a different story, the darker V30 records better.Every Vintage 30 that I've tried, regardless of the date or country of origin or cone, has sounded great.
@The other John Browne
I just installed two new V30 from July 2023 (GJ14), they got the good sound.
Something is definitely going on at Celestion, I hope they keep this change.

Ah sorry, I already stored them.James, many thanks for this information.
Could you please share the cone code with us? We need to validate @The other John Browne information and see if in 2023 celestion are still making smoother cones in code A.
No problem….Ah sorry, I already stored them.
I actually like the brighter sound of my 2011 chinese V30 better, right now I have 2x Greenbacks and 2x chinese V30 in my 4x12 in a top/bottom configuration.

All four of the Marshall Vintage speakers in my new (2024) 1960BV cab are of the "new" smooth type.
I think Celestion really did something to improve the Vintage 30 (and Greenbacks for that matter) to bring back the pre-China sound.
