Guitar Centering

Used Ernie Ball MusicMan Family Reserve John Petrucci Sig J6... The Rosewood they used as the Fretboard was amazing, though. Super grainy and porous...
Interesting - I don't think I've ever heard anyone praise a fretboard for being grainy and porous before. I usually look for rosewood that's as near to ebony (increasingly unobtainium) as possible, meaning smooth, dense, and tightly grained.

Used Gibson SG Standard P90: This one kind of blew me away. Around a grand used. Best feeling and playing electric guitar I put my hands on all day. Resonant and tight. Quite a few of the more expensive had some odd rattle or buzz just strumming them acoustically. Not this one. It still speaks to me. And the P90s killed when it came to dynamics and touch sensitivity. I could leave the volume full up and get a clean tone just lightening up my attack. I think I need it. :love
I need you to buy that guitar (#vicarious) before I succeed in Googling it and do something stupid. :D I've been looking for another SG - preferably something with P90s. I don't have anything P90 in my collection. Your glowing review is the 2nd best thing to being able to test drive myself. (Unless the fretboard was super grainy and porous. ;))

P.S. Which store location in Michigan? There's, like, a hundred.

They had nearly ZERO used Tube Amps. I was told they are seeing a bit of a Boom in the Used Tube Amp Market.
Meaning, their inventory is low because they've recently sold a ton? I don't actually get out shopping much, but if website inventory pages can be believed, none of the stores around here - from GC to the local boutiquey guy - have anything decent in the way of amps.

Love P-90's Have you Considered Godin ? the Summit Classic P-90 is Awesome I absolutely love mine
I would put it up against a Gibson anyday and the Quality is by far superior and your not paying for the name on the headstock

I'm not into the single cut thing, generally, but those are gorgeous. I've owned a few Godin's over the years and always held them in very high esteem. (Selling my LGXT was incredibly stupid, in hindsight.)

Short answer: yeah, if I bump into one of those I'll give it a go. Godin's don't seem to pop up around here as often as they did 10, 20 years ago. :idk

I've also considered Reverend as a "P90 platform". Great guitars. But I'm leaning toward another SG, mainly because the look fits the Sabbath project I've got going.

That’s cool to hear about the high end Guild. I have a cheap Guild and I’m honestly perplexed by how good it is. For a company that’s been bought and sold so much I expected less of them.

It pretty much devoured every Martin and Taylor in there---in feel, playability, and sound.

I don't have $4k for a 12 string.... but damn it sure did leave an impression. :chef

It was gone last time I checked a few days ago. :(

Sorry. For both of us. :hugitout

At @LCW probably bought it. :stirthepot:knit:clint:rofl

They were building midrange Guild acoustics in the old Hamer/ Ovation factory in New Hartford, CT for a while. There was some crazy talent hiding in the woods up there.

I thought the Petrucci Ibanez models had a "Viper" neck. Never looked at the specs since I figured I'll have 0% chance of ever seeing one.

Per the specs all the JPMs has the "JPM" neck, but is based on the Viper AFAIK.

Ibanez didn’t do so great with a consistent name for the JPM neck-

‘97 catalog-

And the ‘98 catalog-

The ‘99 catalog basically used the same write-up as the ‘98, listing it as a Viper as well.

Never had the chance to play one, but I’d definitely love to!
