I got to participate in a video game arrangement album

For some backstory, I met and became friends with a bunch of indie video game composers. One of them happens to be a part of a Doujin Group who have released a bunch of multiple compilation of arranged tribute albums to video game soundtracks. One of them asked me to play some acoustic parts for one of his arrangements. The song just happens to be in breakneck speed so I was given time to practice before recording. At least I got to flex my flamenco chops.

This time the game was indie shoot-em-up ZeroRanger. The arranged album was supervised and approved by the game's composer and development team. 4 discs worth of arrangements made by some fiercely talented composers/musicians/arrangers I've ever associated with. Even with my contributions being minimal, I had a really fun time learning and recording my parts.

This was the song I contributed to.

For reference here's the original.

This has at least put my foot on the door for submitting arrangements myself. And I've already submitted a demo for the next arrangement project, with 1 or 2 more I'm working on as well.

Anyone into video game music please check it out!

Rather than starting a new thread, I'm bumping this up, as I'm now contributing full arrangements to Resonant Union and their latest release.

The latest release is the second volume of their arranged collection of music from the Xeno game series (Xenogears, Xenosaga and Xenoblade Chronicles).

My contribution is a version of the track Wir Fliegen, composed by Hiroyuki Sawano from Xenoblade Chronicles X. This was tough as I was going through a stressful period and I had an extremely short time before the deadline. But every minute was so invigorating. I recorded with my drummer and co-producer, so it's basically the same guys from my recent album.

Full album on YouTube: my track starts at 8:24.

I'm already working on 2 more songs for thr next volume. Can't wait to get it done.

Thanks guys!

It's becoming quite fun to be part of the video game remix culture. Game soundtracks in general have always been a major source of inspiration and I've already dabbled with remixing/rearranging my own music with that mentality. Being in a community full of other talented folk with their own takes of songs I love is a great way to challenge your thinking and broaden your perspective.

I wouldn't mind scoring a full game myself one day, but with the state of the video game industry, that comes with a ton of caveats.

Ok this was completely unexpected but turns out ZeroRanger Arranged Album -GREEN ARRANGE- won best album at VGM CON 2025. Pretty stoked about that. :D

So you got that goin' for ya', which is nice!!! Congrats ;~))

Thanks! It's actually inspired me to nominate my Wir Fliegen arrangement for next year, and finish off my next one asap. I was supposed to work on 2 but cut it down to 1 due to personal (good) setbacks, or side quest if you will, and it's due end of May, but I'm more determined to get it done.

Unfortunately, due to personal matters, I was only able to contribute one song. But the 3rd and final volume of the Xeno Perfect Arranged Works is out now.

This time I chose to arrange the track Gnosis, from Xenosaga EP.1 composed by Yasunori Mitsuda. Now Mitsuda has been one of my lifelong musical heroes, and the soundtrack to Xenosaga 1 is my favourite album of all time. So arranging Gnosis wasn’t just a no brainer, but I absolutely relished in it. Got the exact same crew from the last Xeno arrangement too.

Full album on the tube. My arrangement starts at 14:18

I also contributed backing vocals to an arrangement of Carrying The Weight Of Life, (originally by Kenji Hiramatsu for Xenoblade 3) and that was also a lot of fun. That track starts at 1:23.

You should post this in the "Do Something Challenge" as well! Great job and hopefully life won't get in the way of more participation in the future!!

My version of Gnosis now as a standalone on YouTube.

Wonderful job you done!

Thanks guys!

Admittedly this release came out during a time of personal setbacks so I told the Resonant Union team I might have to sit out on the next project or so in advanced.

Thankfully it’s only a temporary setback and hopefully a silver lining comes sooner and I might get inspired to jump back in again.

This is pretty amazing to me, super cool. I've wanted to dive into this space for a very long time however I've never pursued it because of the high quality mixing/production that must be achieved to qualify. I just can't do it. Writing little jingles are easy for me but I've never wanted to pay for a great production just to shop around as a nobody when there are many talented people already in the industry getting the jobs.

Best wishes on the setbacks! Believe me, I know how that goes. I can name at least a half a dozen times in my life where I felt I was peaking musically, and life happened in very bad ways to set me back. I have come back fighting each time to get back and beyond those peaks, but I am often shaking my head going WTF!! Keep on keepin' on Brother ;~))
