I’m not saying I am going to buy an amp…

I think what I’m looking for is something in the British tone camp with at least two channels. Like two channels of Plexi where I can set one at edge of breakup and the other either cleaner or more saturated.

I prefer amps 50w or under.
I love el34s and 6v6s
I hate 6l6s
I think I want a head.

Bonus points for decent sounding direct out or even a line out.
That looks much like a Friedman Twin Sister to me.

Marshall JCM2000 DSL50 Head // These can be had for $750 - $850 in very good shape. I've had 2 of them & they ROCK !!

I actually used to own one and I liked it. The one problem I remember is that I kept wishing I had access to both modes of the first channel.

I’ve thought about the new DSL100HR because it fixes that issue but I really wish they had a 50w version and I wish it was smaller. I love Marshall’s but I’d rather not have a head that big.

Still, this one is on my list

You've checked out Bad Cat before right?

Maybe also see about the Mesa Triple Crown or the Badlander as mentioned. As much as I loved my Mark IV, I wouldn't describe it as British tone

Yeah, I’ve been thinking about Bad Cat. I’ve had a few Cubs and a Black Cat (all from the early Mark Sampson days) and I loved all of them.

I’m tempted to try a Hot Cat or maybe one of the new el34 Cubs

2525H Mini Jubilee.

2 x EL34.

2 footswitchable channels and one of those is "clean".

Sounds great at all volumes. Versatile EQ. Good FX loop.

What are the channels like? Is it clean clean and distortion, or can you dial in more in-between shades of overdrive?

Cleans are great, crunch is great, especially with some nice pedal drive on top. Crush (other than the name) is awesome with some higher output pickups. My Marshall experience is not vast enough to give a true comparison so much as just say I love the el34 power section \m/

Great clean, great crunch and hit it with a pedal for lead is kinda where I’m headed.

Is the cabclone DI usable or is it :poop:?

I actually saw a deal on a 50w rack mount which is giving me some crazy ideas

Tough one for me. I don't like the Cabclone at all. Mine has been problematic af. Might not be a problem for many others, though; so grain of salt. I use the line out of the VII into the FM9/wtever multi into my studio monitors and it's great that way, imo.

The clean channel on the Jube can be squeaky clean if you want that; but the rhythm clip mode of the clean channel can do a crunch sound, so the gain range is quite wide.

Overdrive channel is more compressed but with the gain set below 5 there is definitely overlap between the rhythm clip sound and the overdrive sound.

Interesting, that’s definitely one I’m gonna have to take a closer look at. Thanks!

Ugh… a VII with el34s is really what I want right now. I just hate how expensive they are. I’ve come really close to selling the AxeFX for one

Maybe the Bogner XTC 50
3 channels clean crunch lead
EL34s British sounding and super versatile
