Hey! Newbie here

Very informative. This answered all my queries.

Gonna take a nap now for 6 hours.
One thing that can mess with phase quite a bit is EQ,. Thats one reason why extreme eq setting can sound weird. If I were starting my gear journey over again, I would start with an HX Stomp, get that going into an interface and get a decent pair of studio monitors. Thats how I run and I love the sounds I get. Also, you can ad some nice finishing touches in a daw like this.

If I ever get a multi effects unit, it will be something like the old Boss ME-50.

I am clumsy and impatient. So instead of diving into menus and icons on a big display, anything with enough knobs would be easier to use for me. No hidden features. Added bonus of being able to tweak settings on the fly!

I have never owned any of the ME series, but the knobs are a plus. I had the Digitech RP360. I miss that thing sometimes, it had an lfo you could put on anything.

You should look at the new boss ME unit then. Seems like it’s well received by people.

I am not a big effects user. I checked out the units released after ME 50, and they kept getting bigger and bigger.

I only use tuner and overdrive pedals. At the most, I would use another Overdrive, Chorus, Delay, Reverb, maybe a volume pedal. So theoretically anything like the ME 50 is perfect :)

I am currently using only a tuner pedal and a volume pedal. I also have an overdrive pedal (Boss SD-1) which I will never part with.

After some research online, I found out that there are some simple-to-use multi effects pedals, which have knobs like the one in the pic I have enclosed below. No menus/ screens. No hidden features. Nothing to worry about. They are kinda expensive though.

I have decided to keep some money aside every month, so that I can buy something like this after a few months.

Hopefully these will be as reliable as Boss units.

I will only buy it from a place/ online seller who have a good return policy, and from sellers who offer warranty.

Hey! I am new here.

I had bought a fender blues deluxe used. It did not come with a footswitch. I play classic rock covers. I bought a couple of pedals and asked a friend to put them on a small board using velcro.

I am still figuring how to post pics. My pedals are Polytune and Boss SD1, powered by a 9 Volt adapter.

I had a clip on tuner, but I was facing difficulties while tuning my partscaster guitar in noisy environments (bars). I have been much relieved after using a tuner pedal.

I step on the overdrive pedal while soloing. I know it sounds boring, but I don't like the hassle of having a large pedalboard and trouble shooting patch cables and power supplies.

I have seen a friend struggle with it while he was plugged into his huge board, but he plays effect-laden originals. So he really requires all of his pedals.

I have tried using a multi effects unit, but it seemed to have a learning curve. I guess I may not be inteligent enough to use many effects.

It's common for me to meet people who have more pedals than I have. Sometimes I wonder if I should get something like another overdrive, a reverb pedal etc. But I don't use reverb live and feel that I have enough gain. I set the amp for as much gain I want and use SD1 pedal if I need a little more overdrive/ volume boost for solos. If I need to play cleaner, I use my guitar's volume knob.

Am I weird?

If you ever decide to move to multi effects devices, don't ever get rid of your footpedals.
On multi effects boards, each program/ patch is like a new pedalboard.
For the price of four pedals, you can get older multi effects units, for the price of six to seven footpedals, you can get a decently moderately modern multi effects unit.

I have a two multi effects unit on my pedalboard running into a rack effects processor.

Once I got over the learning curve ; learned to link the main MIDI controller to control other MIDI devices thru MIDI Mapping, MIDI Implementation and CC Messaging.

I can use on device on my pedalboard to give me two part guitar harmonies and with MIDI CC Messaging, I can use my rack processor to push say the 5th down note to the right of the stereo field, the fretted root note in the middle and the 3rd up on the left side of the stereo field ....now I have three part guitar harmonies.

Hey!

Thank you for being so supportive, all of you. I had thought of using a simple, 2 button (separate ones for play and stop) looper pedal at one time.

However, a friend told me that since I utilize overdrive from my amp, it will not sound good. He said I will have to buy another amp with "send and return jacks" having effects loop. I don't know what it means. He also said I will have to buy 2 more cables, so that I could use the looper with the amp. So I gave up on the idea.
If you get an amp with an effects loop put your modulation pedals ( Flanger, Phaser, Chorus, Detune, Pitch Shifters and Reverb) in the effects loop.
Get a Buffer as the first thing your guitar plugs into, followed by Compressor, Distortion, Wah Wah, Eq pedal going into the front input of the amp.

Thank you.

I have chosen a simple amp. I am both the guitarist and the singer (I play covers @ bar gigs), so I set it either on edge of break up or a little past that. I use my volume knob, rolled off for playing clean-ish. Step on SD-1 pedal for boosting, if needed. I also have a MD-2 pedal, which I only use if I am plugged into a backline amp and don't like it's overdriven sound or it only has a clean channel.

I have tried and decided not to add more pedals to my setup, as I lose my focus.

I just gave you that information, in case that in the future that you decide to go MIDI .

If you want to go MIDI and you want to integrate footpedals under the control of MIDI Implementation, here are a couple of devices to put the pedals under control for activation.
I own this one; it has a Class A buffer to covert you passive pickups impedance from high to low impedance, thus preserving your tone down the path .
I added a EHX Ravish Sitar simulator pedal, a Behringer AM100 Acoustic Modeler, a Boss GE-7 band Eq and MXR Ten Band Eq.
With my MIDI controller, I can activate one, two or three of the effect loops with MIDI Mapping or CC Messaging. And you could have the option of using the four loop to change amp channels on a non MIDI amp.

This is another great device to integrate footpedals, but the RJM Mini Effects Gizmo, has five loops .
Both have buffers and the effects loops has shielded loops.

The con about both devices are ;
A. If you put modulation pedals, like a ; Flanger, Phaser, Chorus and have them in a sweep mode, you might have turn on the loop during mid sweep, since the pedals need to be on.
If you have more than one overdrive
or distortion pedal, you can use these devices to activate one of the loops with MIDI Mapping or CC Messaging or you can use it to gain stack to get two loops activated for that purpose.
Either way, with both devices, you will need the owners manual.

Thank you for this information.

I don't think I will ever understand MIDI implementation or try to use it in my rig. But this post will be useful for others planning on doing it.
