Helix Talk

If by FM0 you mean Axe FX III in plugin format, YES please!

Unfortunately, I think that this will never happen. As the hardware is as pricey as it is, quite some people would possibly think about building a live setup around laptops or maybe Mac Minis. With pretty much any other modeler, you'd end up with a higher price compared to the hardware, but you could keep the overall costs pretty much below an Axe FX (given that, say, even the smallest Macbook Air would offer sufficient CPU juice).

Fwiw, the idea of being able to use the Helix to throw out typing keyboard stuff is just gorgeous. But it should really, really be a global setting rather than being patch based. I have never even heard of one single person using this feature - and I'm sure it'd be quite different if it was a global thing and people wouldn't have to pretty much destroy any existing patch to make use of that feature.
And well, it's been exactly like that for me, too. I was absolutely excited to use this in combination with Logic when recording guitars (I'm a sucker for keycommands anyway) - but apart from one brief testrun, I simply never did. Just because I didn't feel like creating completely new sets of patches all the time.

It’s a bonus feature not a key feature. I’d assume the expectation is that you’re using it as DI interface and not nitpicking individual patches if you using it as your DAW controller.

I pretty much never used the Floor that way. And I'm not using the Stomp that way, either. I record pretty much the traditional way, as in recording a finished sound minus delay and reverb.

Didn't know this keyboard feature and tbh I don't fully understand how it works. Fortunately I think I don't currently need it 😅

Any stomp switch on Helix can send a keyboard shortcut to any piece of software in your Mac or PC—video games, Photoshop, Chrome, Excel... Any keystroke you use to navigate or otherwise utilize a piece of hardware can be accomplished with your feet. Save it as a template so you can reuse those switches in any preset you make. We also have a bunch of templates to get you started so you can jam with YouTube, Spotify, etc.

Sascha's issue is that you can't globally lock those switches to magically show up in every existing preset (because starting with a QWERTY template or copying/pasting all commands to/from presets—which takes like 7 seconds—is far too unwieldy). I can totally see how global commands could be helpful, and don't technically disagree with his sentiment, but Sascha just won't shut up about it. Maybe we should drag our feet even longer because if he switches to Fractal, maybe I can finally stop hearing the voice I imagine he sounds like in my head.

Can you get a video of your friend's band showing off/explaining their setup?

Oh God help us all, if he switches to Fractal.

Anything you do from your typing keyboard can basically be done through the HX series switches.

No, this is defenitely NOT the reason for me to complain! The reason is that I'm losing all my carefully curated switch assignments when doing so. And believe me, even back in my Floor days, every single one of them has been in use on every single patch I ever used in a serious manner. Losing a whole bunch of them in favour of whatever QWERTZ keyboard messages is a much bigger deal than having to copy commands.
