Helix Stadium Agoura Amps Sneak Peek video

I know I’m a shit disturber for saying this, but I’m a shit disturber with a Stadium on preorder.

The whole “captures more detail than ever before” comment sounds like something that would bug DI if some company of lesser repute made the same claim. Fractal has been doing this for ages. It’s not some new, never-seen-before methodology.

That's hyperbolic? Paul says in the narration that it uses a completely new methodology (which is true. It's new for them) and that it captures more detail than before, which anyone would assume to be true about any new modeling engine that uses new tools and takes up more DSP.

I get that people's BS meters have been going off the charts with some promotion of specific products in this space, but there's not one superlative phrase (e.g. most powerful floor modeler, greatest ________ in a floorboard ever) in the video.

Where did I say it was hyperbolic? I think you’ve misunderstood me and you’re putting a lot of words in my mouth / thoughts in my brain.

It’s not about hyperbole. It’s about DI’s distaste for companies saying they’re doing something new or novel or revolutionary when that’s not necessarily the case. (See his comments on other companies acting like they invented component based modeling or capturing.)

Fractal has been modeling these details for ages. I’m sure that Agoura is a new level of detail *for L6 products* but that’s not how it’s presented, and it’s certainly not a new level of detail in the world of modeling.

Ironic, then, that you seem to be putting words in their figurative mouth because they say nothing about the world of modeling or even use the word "invent" anywhere in that video.

Line 6 talked about making stand alone models of tubes, transistors, bucket brigade chips and even light bulbs 10 years ago when Helix first dropped. They're not saying that they're the first to do it, or even that this is their first time doing it.

If anything, they're being more restrained this round because the Helix launch in 2015 had them explicitly claiming it was the most advanced guitar processor ever.

We clearly see this differently, and you seemingly cant help but read things in my comment that I didn’t write, so we can drop it.

I’m literally quoting them so I’m not sure how I’m putting words in their mouth.

I’m just mad that Paul said “methodology” when the proper word should be “method” but his posh west end accent makes us assume he’s smart and shit. :grin

I think they're just referring to coming up with new ways to do things in their own amp modeling process. They're never really been interested in comparing themselves with other companies. I don't think they really mean they invented a new process. It's just a new process that they're using themselves which enables them to do things more accurately than their previous way of doing things. That's the way I interpreted it.

As much as I like our Marketing team, there's always a bit of back-and-forth to get something that doesn't offend one of our sensibilities (namely mine or Igor's) and I had to learn to just let some of the minor things go. Yes, the intent was that Agoura's modeling methodology is new to us, but my understanding is that there are indeed several unique tools in there that aren't currently being done by anyone else.

But yeah, I generally loathe market-speak, but y'know what I loathe even more? Annoying my wife because the Saturday afternoon email/text/Teams rabbit hole with our copywriter has stretched into three hours.

I think mis-quoting them out of context.

Not quoting at all, actually, which is just odd.
Holy balls. Here’s the transcript. What I’m saying is, this level of detail has been captured before, just not by L6. So to pretend this is some untrodden foray in the modeling universe is that same language that DI has openly said he dislikes.

Hopefully this helps you understand.

How the hell do you know? Have you been elbow deep in Agora code to know what level of detail they are modeling the interaction between power amp and speaker load? You only know that others have modeled the interaction but that tells you nothing about the relative level of detail or which details.

that’s a fair counterpoint to my original comment. for every nth degree of detail there can be an (n+1)th degree. i took the comment at its most face value and it struck me as a bit ironic, considering the comments DI has made in the past.

But again, they never use the word invent.

Also, they don't say that Agoura uses a completely new methodology that captures more detail than anyone ever has before or has ever been done before. They just say it captures more than ever before, so they're just talking relative to what they've done previously.

good god

i never said they claimed to invent something. I don’t know what the fuck you are reading because clearly it’s not my comments.

you’re also adding to what they’ve done previously said. they didn’t qualify any of their claims with “for us” - you’re adding that.

just let it go man. you’re not gonna get your balls tickled by paul for white knighting for him out here.

I find it rather ironic that you are reading into things not actually directly stated in the video and then getting your panties in a wad when someone reads something into what you didn't directly write.

I literally quoted the video. And I conceded that your interpretation was a fair counterpoint to my interpretation. I don’t really know what more you want.

My panties aren’t in a wad. I’m just finding @mikah912 insufferable here.
