What puts the "dynamic" in the name? Are these doing some ducking? Seems like I need to make the mix a lot higher to be as noticeable compared to the Legacy reverbs

Yeah there's modulation in there, or something going on inside the delay rather than just a linear fade out.

The room and plate by default are mixed a bit quiet while the hall is mixed a bit loud. I don't really use the others.

I honestly am not a fan of these verbs. Some of the “motion” is way overdone to the point of making me seasick. Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but not by much.

It saddens and frustrates me a bit that Helix still doesn't have a reverb that competes with some of the other higher quality stuff out there. None of these newer reverbs are really a patch on BigSky's Cloud or Bloom, or Fractal's Cumulonimbus, or even Chorus Hall, heck even the Quad Cortex now has Mind Hall and Modulated Hall, both of which are fantastic - smooth, not metallic, and with enough frequency capabilities that you can really have your reverb cut through.

I'm just not really that into the HX reverbs. The delays are very good - Adriatic, Transistor Tape, Cosmos Echo, Glitch Delay - those are all dope AF !

I know this is down to each one's personal preferences, but i totally find the new Dynamic verbs to compete at Strymon levels.
There's just a metallic ringing going on in pretty much all of them, that is kind of unavoidable. Open up the filters and crank the decay on any of them, and strum a chord.... it really does jump out. Strymon, Fractal, Meris, Eventide... they don't really do that.

I'm by no means an expert, but there's quite a few ways to design reverbs. Some of them are prone to metallic ringing due to how the all-pass and comb filters are dialled in, and sometimes this can be a good sound, but it is definitely a sound.

From what I can gather, a lot of these other more modern "smooth" sounding reverbs use feedback delay networks, instead of all-pass filters in series with comb filters.

Dynamic Plate is on (subtly) 80% of the time for me, usually with a mix of less than 25% and mixed pretty dark. Most of the time when playing with the band you can't hear it, only on softer passages.

I know I am an outlier as I play the guitar, not the reverb pedal.

Possible. Haven't watched it in literally ages. But I remember watching it regularly during my high school years.

Watch it again, and it screams “early eighties.” It leans heavily on all of the popular trends and fashions of the era, whereas other movies may reflect the time in which they were made without screaming it from the rooftops. And that’s not a bad thing, as that kind of stuff takes me right back to my teenage years.
