Enough is enough, I've had it with these mf'ing "FRFR" "amps" on this mf'ing plane.
REAL guitar cabs + guitar speakers = REAL Tone.

No, it doesn’t. Cabs sound great fairly quiet tooYes but that requires real volume
I agree but good gear in general is easy to get a great sound with. In fact if anything takes a lot of tweaking to get your sound send it back. The thing about a simple setup like amp > cab > microphone is ... it is just really easy to work with, and really easy to get a good sound.
Real amps don't though and most cabs don't either . If you have a plexi and a celestion forget it.No, it doesn’t. Cabs sound great fairly quiet too
this thread is about real cabs and guitar speakers. I do have a 100W 1959 and Celestions and it sounds killer through a Fryette powerstation.Real amps don't though and most cabs don't either . If you have a plexi and a celestion forget it.
In a perfect world I agree .There are times I don’t mind playing through ""FRFR"", sometimes I even enjoy it. Playing through a tube power amp connected to a traditional guitar loudspeaker can also be awesome, or it can suck.
if I had to choose it’s gonna be my tube stuff through guitar cabs every time.

Considering EVH was using some of the first tech that ended up with "FRFR". It's not that simple or clear cut. How about attenuators and ir or miked up smaller cabs in isolation boxes.Preachin the gospel!
Cabs w speakers moving air is what its all about. Thats what the guys and girls had who we all idolized used and had on the posters on our walls.
It may be a simple life but i basically live for that thud that hits your chest and then seeing ppl getting violent. I don't want that polished professional ""FRFR"" sound that might work great for churches or sports bars bc even if it's loud something is missing.
I feel lucky to only be asked to turn up and to be playing shows where loud is good. Loading a cab is not that bad for the fun it delivers.
James and Billy and Dwezel all play Axefx "FRFR".This absolutely nails what I have been feeling lately.
We play what we love for fun. Period.
I didn't start playing guitar to become a studio engineer. I like knowing the knowledge, but I don't want to dedicate any more time to it......it's too much and kills my love.
I am now just concentrating on the sound from the cab speaker. Period. If it sounds good there....job done. Period.
Every other concern is a waste of time and creativity. Leave that to those that can't write or play. Period.
I don't want to be Rick Rubin anymore.....I wanna be Larry Lalonde.....Frank Zappa......James Hetfield.....Billy Corgan.....Kim Thayil. Period.
My new mission.
Take it back to when it was fun.
Outboard recording solution. Everything. No DAW, just mixer....out to L/R channels.....one take...no punches. No irs ....no load boxes.....real drums ....no auto tune. Period.
This is my life now. Real. Period.
Cool.....I will play an axe product too..just through My amp and cab.James and Billy and Dwezel all play Axefx ""FRFR"".

When we played ArcTangent festival back in 2015, it literally was just a case of turn up... throw amp on top of a full stack of cabs.... plug into one of them.... mic'd up... I could be as loud as I wanted on stage. No fucking around with ISO boxes, no fucking around with "FRFR" setups, no fucking around quickly changing the high and low cuts on my IR's or anything like that.like i said churches and sports bars and quiet stages are not my world. some of the shows we play they dont even mic the cab and just ask you to be stupid loud.
i am not saying there isnt place for the tech you are talking about. i am just saying its place is not in the places ive been playing.
