Guitar Cabs And Speakers Are Important

Then you need not to feed a "harsh, overly treble signal" into a speaker. If your preamp/modeler/profiler/whatever generates a signal that is harsher than the "real" amp/cab you're trying to emulate, that's where your problem lies. Blaming a neutral monitor for accurately amplifying that "harsh, overly treble signal" is the intellectual equivalent of blaming a mirror for making you look ugly.
Yeah. That would be why I said the astrophysicists amongst us would find a parameter to allow us to turn the treble down -- whether we are using a modeler into an "FRFR" or an amp that somebody left with treble and presence on 10.

Being an astrophysicist does have its advantages, doesn't it?

B,b, but a tube amp is "the real thing" and never, ever, sounds too trebly and harsh.... Right?:rofl

(technically I'm just a lowly chemist. But I did focus on the physics part of chemistry. Thankfully, that knowledge and skill set is enough to let me wade through the mine field of picking the right amp and cab model and setting the knobs to where I like them)

Physicists generally want nothing to do with chemistry. It seems just a bit too much like alchemy.

That's a good thing. You should share your knowledge in a series of youtube videos on how to find the treble control. For my part, I'm working on a series of lectures about how to tell your ass from a hole in the ground.

I have sketches for a series of 100 weekly videos, each titled "the one thing you are doing wrong".

Don't forget the one about telling shit from shinola.

We'll see if there is room for that in the first 100 episodes. It's going to take at least 40 just to cover the variations on "The one thing you are doing wrong: what the pros know about the treble knob that you don't".

I imagine the complications of shit/shinola differentiations will be more critical to your work. Lemme know if you ever want to do a collab. I can think of several uses of a treble knob for identifying whether one is dealing with their ass, or a hole in the ground (okay, one use. But I'm pretty sure it's The One The Pros use, so...).

I don't trust a crash course unless they tell me how many minutes it will take for them to teach me everything I need to know about...
The best course is to not trust anything, and find out the answers for one's self.

Yo chemist bros

On a serious note; I think it’s funny that the first thing most people do when running "FRFR" is eq out all the high frequencies with a high cut. It sort of defeats the purpose. I get being able to radically reshape the tone by swapping IR is very appealing but I am not sure how well it works for the in the room experience.

For recording, I'm done using mic'd up cabs (playing live is a different story of course).

I just can get as good results using quality iRs and proper EQing, and I have a lot more speaker flavors and mics (virtually speaking) to pick from.

I prefer amp / cab …. Tech is for convenience ….….these days amp sims sound sick.

But its too complicated to me… frame were, connect here , download this that etc…

I quickly lose interest.

I have not touched my amp settings after i have set it.. 🤣
