I got an ISO cab and...

Nice vid Jon. Looks like a well-designed box.
I've thought about building one for years... still haven't.
And having IRs these days has made that project take a back seat. I do have an "iso" closet of sorts, a spare closet off my music room where I padded off the walls and ceiling pretty heavily, so it kills a lot of the db when necessary. But I still won't use it late at night.

Yeah there's nothing wrong with a good load and IRs. I'm still going to do my own "real cab vs IR comparison" test soon. Should be interesting! The thing is, while I'm playing through the real cab (and monitoring it through my studio monitors) I do believe and feel that sonically it's a different experience. Maybe it's also the interaction between the different mics that I'm using etc. But there is something there that I've never experienced with a reactive load and IRs. But again, that doesn't mean that IRs aren't great. Still LOVE them!
Yeah, a psicological part also plays a big role here.

So all of the clips have exactly what I'd expect from a small enclosure that impedes air movement - super hyped low frequency content. It is very noticeable on palm mute riffs.

Actually, I measured the differences of the sound with the lid on vs the lid off, and with the lid on the low end is subdued in the "chunky" area. When you take the lid off the low end opens up a bit. That's what I'm compensating for a lot with the match EQ. In the end, to each his own but I love the sounds that I'm getting!

You can get away with some ribbon mics like m160. I have the Grossman box as well and have used an R121 but I have also used an iron man attenuator to bring the volume in the box down to not hit it with too much pressure. Also I kept it at a 45 degree angle.
