Fractal VP4 Owners Discussion

The QC and Axe3 have great tuners.
The Fractal tuner is great.

But man, I find the QC tuner very meh. I want my tuner to just show pitch, but the QC one is as if it tries to make intelligent pitch tracking tuning decisions for you, so it’s like… too sticky? I find it annoying!

I've not really run into that I don't think. With the Helix one, it is like you're constantly waiting for your son or daughter to catch you up when walking through the park, and it always overshoots!!

I’d rather it overshoot consistently so I can make the decisions! With the QC I’m like “dude I just plucked the string again so you should be overshooting sharp, but since I didn’t give it half a second of silence you’re gonna stay with the previous tracking and pretend that didn’t happen?! You think I’m dumb, get outta here!” XD there’s like a layer of tracking I don’t enjoy at all, interesting to hear others enjoy it.

We need two things:
  1. Block reorder. (Move this to the top of your priority list please) The more I use this, the more this becomes a notable oversight/omission. If possible don’t bury it in a menu somewhere, this needs to be something like a combo button press, like Home + Page L to move left or Save + Page R to move right, once you’ve highlighted the block you want to move. This creates lots of issues because you hesitate to build out all the channels if you think you may want to move the blocks position later or come up with an idea mid-flight and you know you’re now going to have to rebuild the entire block to try it.
  2. Type favorites. I’m pretty sure there is a block library feature when using Edit for the VP4, but since this is meant to be grab and go and integrate with amps, we need to be able to store and recall Type favorites settings on-device. This needs to get embedded into one of the Type page screens (add one at the end?) or would even be fine if buried at the bottom of the Expert menu. Block favorites wouldn’t be ideal because with Channels you may not want the same block/channel combo every time, but there will be plenty of times you add a type to a channel and don’t want to configure your go-to settings for 700th time. Maybe let each type have 5 favorites.

Are either of these on your near-term dev list?

I'd like to control Kill Dry and Routing in a particular block's menu. Right now I have to edit the block, then return home and page over several times to get to these settings.

I've got the VP4 controlling my HX One via midi now. Pretty simple/limited, at this point, but does the job. Can only send a PC that corresponds to the VP4 preset number, can't choose what PC is getting sent.

What's more of an annoyance though, is how the HX One can't save on/off state. The effect is just always on when it gets switched to. Kind of a pain in a live setting, where you have to quickly shut the HX off when the preset gets switched, if you don't want it on immediately.
