Fractal VP4 Owners Discussion

We all can do it! Be strong! And be brave!
It’s in the wrong order kinda, so that mc6 needs something badly!

One of the best things that could happen on this I think is grabbing one of LT's 'multi' blocks where takes a single block and turns one channel into a faux delay, faux verb, etc. and switch between them as needed.

I’ve had the VP4 since it launched a couple weeks ago, and so far I’ve had no need to even hook up the app. I can do everything I need right on the unit, which is a nice step up for Fractal UI. I did have a couple moments where I wanted to do something and had to figure out how to do it on the device, but it’s been fairly painless. Renaming presets or scenes on the device is a chore though, but that’s to be expected when there’s no keypad and is usual of these types of devices. A basic android-style word recognition would be nice, but that’s asking a lot. I’d think many of us use the same terms “clean, heavy, rhythm, blues, dark, lead, bright, detune, sparkling, etc.” that could be put into a quick database.

Setting up an expression pedal as a wah that goes on when I step down and turns off automatically at heel-down is fantastic. I was able to do it all on the device and didn’t need to hook up the app - much easier than on the FM9. I wish I could go lower than 5% as the cut-off for the wah to turn on, but overall it’s fine. I did notice sometimes the expression pedal doesn’t register turning the wah on, it’s intermittent - not sure why as it’s recognizing the expression pedal perfectly, could just be a slight bug they’ll fix later in the firmware. I did have no problem at all calibrating and setting up the pedal, next I’m going to try it as a whammy block and see how it does.

Just bought one. Went from a years-long FX8 user back to pedals when I got bored and wanted something new... quickly remembered why I hate pedals and the cabling, routing nightmares & limitations that go along with them, so going to give Fractal another shot. Will be running it through a Parallelizer w/the VP4 set to Kill Dry to avoid phase issues with the center dry of my W/D/W rig. I didn't own the mixer back when I had the FX8, if so maybe I would have never sold it. I was never happy sending 100% of my signal through AD/DA... regardless of how TGP'y that sounds.

hey so maybe i missed this but does the tuner have to be one of the buttons or is there a way to get around that?

yea i shoulda just read the manual, sorry. the exp pedal all the way to the heel is cool option too.

man i kinda want one of these!!!!

How is the tuner in fractal land? Is it going to let me take my Polytune mini off my board? I tried that with my hx stomp but the tuner was such a pain I went back to the Polytune pretty quick.

Up top. I want the full tuner experience though, not small arrows. For anything beyond a quick recheck.

On a related to the general topic note; vid with the current draw for pedal power purposes:

Two 500ma outputs should easily cover it then. I wonder if it spikes when it boots though?

@SillyOctpuss as lame as it is, there's a bit in my latest YT video where I use the tuner. You can see it pretty clearly, and how much better it is than the Helix (sorry to say!!) one. The QC and Axe3 have great tuners. The Helix one... man, I know it works.. but my eyes don't like it.

I'm very happy with the tuner.

That's good to know. You had the same problems with the Helix tuner that I did.

Not sure? I've been using the included ps and it's been doing great. I have enough things that I'd have to do an upgrade if I wanted all my pedals and the VP on a single supply.

This will be the only digital pedal I'm planning to use and my germanium fuzzes run off battery so a single psu should be fine for my board.

Cool cheers dude I'll check it out.

Ive tried the Helix in regular and strobe mode and it just doesn't work for me. I tried to use it but it just jumps about too much. The Polytune, however, is spot on. If the VP4 can replace it then great and if not it's no real biggie.

I would say yes it can!
