LOOPS FOR DAYS BROEThe thing is, the FM9 is more equivalent to the Helix in terms of more ins and outs and processing power; not the FM3

Dang, not just superior but more superior? That mf'r must be really superior!Ugh, and this is why helix is more superior on this end when it comes to fx loops and UI and stuff lol.
FM-3 on my desk and fudging around with I/O is what made me just buy an Axe FX III.
And even that is kind of stunted with the I/O. It’s insanely flexible in certain ways and frustratingly limited in others. There is weird things like your digital I/O replacing input 1, and not being able to use different digital I/O at the same time (it’s basically one or the other). Left and Right channels are kind of limited too, you can get by with panning and using mixers to route things but it would be great if you could just use them freely.
You can still do a lot with the I/O and IMO Fractal’s platform comes to life when you have the Axe FX. If you’re already contemplating a floor unit and something on the desk, I’d just skip the middleman and go for the flagship.
There are a couple of issues here.Ok so if i want them to be 2 fx loops then yes? :]
There are a couple of issues here.
(1). If you want to use output 2 as effects loop rather than as a secondary output, yes, XLR-to-TRS cables from Out 1 are the way to go. Even if you are planning to plug that into a TS input (don't know what you were planning to run this to) I'd still go XLR-to-TRS cables because...they are more useful beyond this singular purpose and shouldn't be any worse than going XLR-to-TS cables.
(2). If you do choose to use output 2 as effects loop, keep in mind that you only have one "OUT2" block on the grid (and only one "IN2" block). Which is to say you REALLY only have 1 loop, though it can be stereo. You could rundown an @JiveTurkey rabbit hole of trying to figure out how to run one pedal on the left side and another one on the right, and use an expression pedal to pan across to which ever one you want active, but that...is a pain.
The FM3 is a great box IF it does everything you want it do without adding on peripherals (duh -- "its a box that can do what you want if it does what you want!"), but not a great box if you have to start trying to expand beyond it, IMO.
Input 1 will be from something (usually your guitar). Output 1 can be to your JBLs.
Input 2 can either be for your VP4 or your Aeros looper. Not both. At least not easily. However you could consider just running the looper after everything else.
Guitar > stuff > FM3 (with VP4 in the Out2/In2 loop) > looper > speakers
You only have one, stereo FX loop with OUT2/IN2 on the FM3.does that leave 2 fx loops on fm3 available?

Output of looper into interface.but then i couldn't capture the looper in my daw, this is all for recording into computer

I'll figure something out.
I think if i can run guitar -> vg-800 (with zoia and eventide h90 in vg800 fx loop) -> gm-800 and the vg out with a dual trs to ts cable into the input on fm3 that would work
Then I could do vp4 with spdif but i have never done that before or have the cables but i'll see about it
Then put aeros loop studio in the fx loop

TBF, you’re comparing the flagship helix product to the smallest Fractal solution. The FM9 has 3 analog I/Os plus SPDIF. A little less than Helix floor but still extensive capabilities.
