I would get the concept of it being like the Stomp, where you have forty seven jacks that can all be independently configured in 30 seconds out of your mind.

You do have two input chains available, between input one and input two. And there might be a way ( while driving yourself completely insane in the process) to split the left and right signals using a convoluted chain or creative fx block routing. I would dump that hope immediately.

Not to be negative, it's just best to go in with open eyes.
 
I just wanna know a simple question.

If I use xlr-to-ts cables from fm3 to my jbl's, does that leave 2 fx loops on fm3 available? I am confused on this or should I not even do xlr?

I would rather have 2 fx loops available if that is the case though.

Those will be fine. Without opening up the Pandora's box of cable love/hate, just about anything will be fine that has good connectors and good wire ;~)) You could also get a couple of 1/4" to XLR converters (or the opposite of XLR to 1/4") and use cables you may already have. Congrats on the new score.

As for what to know, I like to start with an In block, an Out block and an amp, and play with that with zero effects or cab, then move on once I like the basic amp tones being produced. YMMV! A lot of great factory presets if you can do some minor tweaks to them. When I first received my Axe FXIII, I spent the first month filtering through the factory presets and narrowed it down to half a dozen that I really liked. I then cannibalized them to make my kitchen sink preset (which has been evolving ever since). Once again YMMV! Enjoy ;~))

I'm not using stomp lol. I have helix floor. There's 4 fx loops on it. I just take whatever pedal i want with the ins/outs and put them into the appropriate send/return on helix and pull up that block and done.

So are you plugging your guitar into the Helix floor then putting the 2 separate FM paths in 2 of the Helix' loops?

I won't be using helix with the fractal fm3. Going to move helix off the main desk and put it on side desk and put my ableton move and tempera into it and any other future synth stuff.

FM3 will strictly be for guitar / guitar synth stuff.

Mainly my guitar goes into boss vg-800 (which will also have zoia and eventide h90 in its fx loop) and gm-800, and then I'd like that to go into fm3, but could I do that into the guitar input?

Then I'd like to have a fx loop ready for my vp4

Then a fx loop ready for my singular sound aeros loop studio

There's only one (stereo) loop in the FM3. Your guitar plugs into input 1 ideally then you can put whatever outboard fx you want in that stereo loop. You could put your VP4 at post using S?PDIF.

Ugh, and this is why helix is more superior on this end when it comes to fx loops and UI and stuff lol.

I'll figure something out.

I think if i can run guitar -> vg-800 (with zoia and eventide h90 in vg800 fx loop) -> gm-800 and the vg out with a dual trs to ts cable into the input on fm3 that would work

Then I could do vp4 with spdif but i have never done that before or have the cables but i'll see about it

Then put aeros loop studio in the fx loop
