Fractal Talk

Had a few hours on the new fm9 fw.

The comps are killer now. I’ll actually use them for a change, especially the dynacomp classic and the jfet studio.

The spring reverbs are improved, there was a slight harshness to them before that I couldn’t dial out but it didn’t bug me much. That’s gone now and I find them useful from the subtle to the extreme sounds.

New fuzzes are awesome. Didn’t get much time with them yet though.

I didn’t get to the delay algorithm yet. Love the trem ducking. Did optical trem 1 change between 8.0 and now? It seems sweeter to me, maybe it’s just the ducking I was using but I thought I had tried it with ducking before (envelope control on mixer).

Yes the comps are really awesome
Fractal is simply amazing, not much more I can say

I didn’t jive with them before. That wasn’t a problem because comp had never been an integral part of my sound anyway. I haven’t really jived with any modeler comp, the helix ones didn’t do anything for me either. I usually have a comp in my main patch but I rarely use it.

That’s in the past now, these are actually fun to play with similar to my favorite pedal comps. They’ll be in all my low-mid gain sounds going forward I think. There wasn’t anything in that range that I tried that didn’t get better with one of the new comps.

Anyone have any settings they can share when using a tube power amp and cab? I just cannot get my current setup LX-II and vertical Mesa 2x12 to sound good to me. It’s so bass heavy and nasal/high end shrill sounding at the same time. Beyond frustrated. Just trying to get a good 5150 sound. I know it’s user error but when I think I have it right, the next day it’s back to square one.

How did you dial it in? Loud through powered speakers or studio monitors or headphones or...? Leave power amp modeling on. Select the matching (or close) impedance curve of the Mesa cab in the speaker tab of the amp block. Leave presence and depth switches off on the LX.

Have you tried this?

Looks like @deadpool_25 arrived with the following settings in the speaker block

LRF: 119
LRQ: 3
LR: 5.8

But maybe this is old news and how people use to do things pre impedance curve selection

Here is an example of what I am looking for. I understand this isn’t an Axe Fx 3 but you get the general idea. I cannot even get close to this.

I am just playing through my LX and cab. I am playing at pretty good volume.

So dialing it in with the gear in question. No wah or oddball eq/filter block/global eq in your presets that is accidentally enabled; no cab block engaged? Make sure the master isn't cranked up in the amp model and adjust with the level control. You should be able to get something face crushing dialing it in as you normally would, generally speaking.

Nope. Master is at 2.50 B/M/T at 5. Presence 5. Resonance around 4. Gain at 6.50.

Does your cab have V30s in it?

To my ear they're not the best choice for amplifying modelers.

Think I inquired before when you mentioned crap sound. I asked about the Cab Block while also using a stand alone Cab?

Are you using one?
