Played a 50 watt Fillmore combo today. GREAT amp. I like the Cali Tweed a lot...like the Fillmore better. And not in a "I like black panel tones more than tweed tones" because if anything I like tweed tones more, but in "Cali Tweed does a great job at getting tweed-style tones...I think the Fillmore does an even better job at doing the blackpannel thing and more, and its got two channels that are both super flexible."

Need to look at its look and see if it would work with the Synergy stuff and/or with a modeler plugged into eh return... Hmmmmmm.....

What’s your signal chain, here?

“Well, it goes guitar into these pedals the. Into this Synergy preamp, that is setup in 4 cable method with this amp, and in the effects loop of the Synergy is this FM3 and in the effects loop of the fM3 is this Helix and then there’s this attenuator on the amp that outputs a line level signal into one of the loops on the Helix and it all goes…”

I'm thinking of grabbing a Fillmore 50 combo. Will probably be jamming with an alt-country/roots singer-songwriter guy soon, and the Dyne + Recto 2x12 is probably a bit much. :grin I also need a living room noodling/practice amp and the Fillmore seems like it could fill both roles. (I've owned the 100W head in the past and already know I like the amp overall).

Was looking at the Cali Tweed too, but as mentioned the two cloned channels is a great feature and I'm not into the extra-multi-watt thing that the Tweed does. 50/25 is good for me.

Be aware that the 50 is not a very loud 50. An amp like the Mark V:25 is just as loud, if not a little louder.

Yeah it’s still a fantastic amp, for sure.

For the alt-country/roots thing, it would just be pushed cleans and crunch + a boost pedal. Don't need crystal clear cleans with tons of headroom or anything. And for home I'd probably use 25W with just a little delay in the loop, pretty low volume.

I don't know anything about the combo speaker. Any experience with that?

Yeah it’s a C90, nice speaker. It’s more balanced than a V30. Works well in that combo.

Oh ok, I thought it was something different that the usual. I actually don't love C90s, find them too dark and bland, much prefer V30s. But I thought it was something other than either of those.

Nope. Though you can order it with anything Mess deals with, like a V30 or Creamback.

I used a Dual Rec for a while when I was backing a local country artist!

But yeah, the Fillmore is probably a better choice :grin

Yes I've read that, thanks! Also found the 100W head paled in comparison to my Dyne head. Not worried with what I've got in mind for this amp.
Keeping the amp on its lower gain mode and pushing the gain and volume knobs yields plenty of volume. Hit it with a boost pedal and there is even more volume on tap.

The higher gain mode does sacrifice some volume with the additional compression.

Don't be afraid to crank the volume knob past 6 or 7. :chef

Wasn't Lindsay Buckingham a Rec guy, too? Very versatile amps.

Yeah, I think the 50W combo would be perfect for alt-country/roots and plenty of volume! Part of me wants to go 100W, but it adds like 15 lb or something... and kind of goes against the whole point of getting something smaller than my Dyne. I'll probably go try out the 50W combo today, there's one in a store near me.

I've also got my eye on a Dr Z Z-Master, the Joe Walsh repro of a 57 Bandmaster, which would be a totally different direction for me. But could be super fun with a paired-down setup of a few pedals and zero Helix or Mesa products in sight. :) 3x10 combo is pretty intriguing.

I think so! Yeah they’re way more versatile than most people realize.
