Dream Theater Megathread NEW SONG POSTED!!!!!

I’m going to really try hard NOT to look at the set lists from those shows.
Portnoy used to be in charge of setlists, and what he would do is change up the songs from previous albums from night to night. He said his reasoning was to give those fans that go to multiple shows a chance to hear more songs.

Then again, learning old material, you know, especially for Portnoy since he hasn't been in the band, I'd imagine is harder than it's ever been for them. I guess we'll see.

Hahahahha well considering Portnoy went and did that Drumeo appearance and played the DT songs for the first time since he was last in DT and nailed them, I'm sure he'll be ok!

Just found some more DT I'd never heard- early version of what was to become SFAM, from the FII writing sessions. I never knew this music went back to that time!

Sounds like the whole thing is 1 take! Some weird (even for DT) shit in there too.

Man, everyone about DT is chomping at the bit to criticize it already. Love it or hate it. Need it now!

I am excited. I do wonder what the over/under is on songs. 5? 6? 4? :idk

I tempered myself after Portnoy said they basically picked up where they left off with Black Clouds, as that was where my steep drop in interest occurred originally. I agree with him, this is right in that vein. I can see this being a much more fun tune live than on the album.

Fairly DT-by-numbers, but man, am I fucking glad to be hearing those drums in this band again. That's enough to get repeated listens from me. The drums sound natural in DT again! Petrucci's got some great lead tones in this, sounds like he's totally dry for one of them. Rhythm tone is a bit....subdued? Not bad at al, I'd just like to hear a bit more presence in them.

Vocals were completely unmemorable after 2 listens. I can't remember a single vocal melody from the song and it just stopped playing 15 seconds ago. LaBrie doesn't sound bad, there's just nothing there to grab onto for me.
