Dream Theater Megathread NEW SONG POSTED!!!!!

You know how some people can play all the notes, and they cop the feel very well, but then there are others who just bring something "extra"?

These 2!

This guy puts so much extra feel/passion into that solo! Absolute perfection. :chef

I cued it to the solo, but the entire cover is worth watching.

Name a cooler couple. I’ll wait.

Nothing like not knowing you are going to stir the shit and concoct some drama when you wake up. :crazy

But here it comes. The iconic riff from Dream Theater's Pull Me Under making an appearance
a few years BEFORE it made it's way into that Dream Theater song. Hmmmmm?????

How did I never notice this before. It is almost exact! WTF Petrucci!!??

This was 1988. Pull Me Under was released in 1992.

Eh, I hear a similarity, but not much more.

Hey, Dream Theater has added dates for the part of the tour dedicated to Parasomnia, and the 2nd show is in Baltimore. I'm gonna buy my tickets tomorrow.

Also, I've been messing around with Night Terror, and damn if that hasn't given me a much deeper appreciation for that song. The scales he uses are a bit different than anything else I can recall, which I think John mentioned something about him studying some different styles during, or prior to, him coming up with these songs, and to me, it definitely shows.

This album is firmly in my top 3 favorites (of their's)!

Meh, not very similar at all. Lay off the drugs!

I will partially side with papa @la szum here, the chuggy riff does sound -very- similar to the fates warning tune and the awful/cringy vocals also have a lot in common

That said, the “iconic” guitar riff/melody definitely sets pull me under apart and ultimately makes it the superior song

It cracks me up that my older sister was the one who turned me on to dream theater at the age of 8 or 10

When I was a teen my parents had a fairly strict rule of making me drag some vague “chaperone” in the family to concerts. It was the ultimate circle back when I dragged said sister to that “theater tour” DT did. I had to buy both tickets (scale the summit, big elf, and Zappa plays Zappa opening)

We were literally in the back final row of seats, right before Zappa and DT came on someone from Zappas team came up and was handing out pit tickets to the farthest reaches of the theater so we got to move hella close to the stag for ZPZ and DT. Epic code memory

I was learning that song a few months ago (think I gave up at the lead section you'll be unsurprised to hear...) and it was so much harder to play than it sounds! Watching the video or just listening to the music it doesn't seem too complicated but it sure feels it under the fingers 😅
