Listening to Echos of Miles: Live to Rise and Black Rain. These guys are just so good.

I simply love them. So very sad that Chris Cornell is gone. One of a kind. Thayil is a modern Iommi.

Man, this pushed me into a late night of retrospective listening to Soundgarden.

I think the dude just got worn out and beat up from screaming his ass of. He was
spent. You can hear it over the years. The early Soundgarden when it was more
primal and not as refined. And then the peak years from Temple of the Dog up
to his Solo Album Euphoria Morning. The last Soundgarden Album just fell flat
for me. It did back then and it did again last night. The Legend is still there, and
you hear glimmers of it. But I think his entire being (and vocal cords!) were just shredded. :(

He was definitely living the High Wire act with the way he sang. A vocal daredevil if you
will.

And now I am eager and kind of scared to hear whatever material they have plucked from
the Vault to construct an whole Album postmortem. :idk

It will be interesting to be sure. The last album wasn’t my favorite but zi enjoyed a few songs a lot. He seemed a bit more restrained with Audioslave for whatever reason. Maybe to fit the band.

He was one of a kind and his range was crazy. I did like his voice a lot when lower. I wish he had done more of that!

Yeah Louder than Love up through most of Superunknown was killer. I think Black Hole Sun was where I had to work REALLLLLLY hard not to bail. Overkill to infinity. Couple that with there's no amount of Kim Thayil that can save them if I don't dig what Cornell is doing. I think Like a Stone is ridiculously overplayed but a fantastic song. The rest of Audioslave was not my bag at all.

I did like Cochise! Come on man… great song!

I mainly think Cornell being an actual singer vs. DeLaRocha had Morello sort of writing "normal" riffs. Like pick the stock Sabbath and Zeppelin stuff as that is where Cornell could shine vs. let's redo an Afrika Bambata song because DeLaRocha is home there.

Badmotorfinger and Superunknown was a hell of a 1-2 punch, but I keep coming back to the exotic rawness of Louder Than Love. Each of those three albums show very different sides of the same band, and I love them all.

But the songwriting only got more boring from there, and the less said about his solo canon, the better (with the exception of the first album made in partnership with Natasha and Alain from the band Eleven). And obviously he was personally drained and struggling to boot.

I do enjoy listening to Ian Thornley and Robert Locke whenever I want to hear a vocalist of Cornell's range and timbre these days,

I love Soundgarden. I really came to love Audioslave. That 3rd album has some great songs on it.

But Soundgarden… look they’re not much I don’t like. Even a lot of King Animal I dig. My wife and I went to the last show. Didn’t expect it to be the last one. Still surreal waking up to that the next day. I thought they sounded good at the show too. His best? No. Sone mistake sure. The only time he got visibly mad was when they didn’t have his guitar tuned up right for Been Away For Too Long. I’d be pissed too. But they played Mailman and that fucking ruled. Couldn’t wait to see em again. Now… I’m hopeful for the new album. It’ll be a good bookend to their story.

Mailman is sublime.

I saw them once during Down on the Upside. Pretty tight.
