Couple of questions about lower end modelers.

Anyone have an updated NUX Amp Academy and a Ampero Mini or One? Better yet, a NUX Amp Core Studio?

I have a Hotone Ampero II Stage, Ampero Mini MP-50 and Nux Amp Core Studio. I’ve had many others including the aforementioned Amp Academy, a MG-300. MG-30 and upper end stuff like a Fractal AxeFX-III and FM-3 latest models.

I could rank them (and you’d likely agree) but I am particularly curious about the comparison between the earlier and more expensive NUX AA versus the recent NUX Amp Core.Studio. The AA offers reverb while the Core simply offers amps, increased definition with EQ’s and a few other perks. I think that’s an important distinction and propose that free’d up CPU is put to good use in what I assume is a similar processor. The result IMO?

Regardless of NUX’s tendency to variable nomenclature, the Core Studio offers noticeably improved amps when compared to the AA, MG-3000, Ampero One Mini and Ampli-FireBox MKII. I suspect it’s a greater devotion of available processor to Amp modeling and EQ that gives it the edge along with tweaked amp algorithms.

I hear it clearly and think this product is an understated step forward. Can anyone else with these weigh in please?

Dang I wish the newer NUX had Aux-In. Major need for me in this space. Jam along, backing track, drums. Ampero Mini delivers. But the NUX tone. Somebody check me.

Headrush Flex Prime has an Aux in and is new for $500. It sounds really good too. That's the lowest-end I'd consider.

Perhaps it might help if I attempt to describe what I hear differently on the NUX ACS. I’ll use the JCM-800 as I likely know that tone the best as it’s one of my favs as some of you know too damn well. It reminds me of the first time, likely 5 or 6 years ago, I got my first AxeFXIII. I went to the JCM stock patch and it sounded good. Really good. Then I scrolled down the scenes/sub-patches, or what ever the hell they call them, to “#34”. Some of you surely no the history behind that. It’s a great story. Anyway, I was immediately struck by the “sweetness” I was hearing. Probably best described as very musical harmonics and overtones. And it just felt great under the fingers. Hopefully somebody knows what I mean. Joyous softer-edged and pleasant Kerrang maybe. I’ve found it with some Plexi patches on the Axe as well.

I’m not comparing NUX to Fractal nor ACS to the Axe but… it’s something like what I described above. That’s the nice difference I hear on the Amp Core Stomp that I don’t hear or struggle to get from the previous NUX units I owned. The closest was the MG-30. And the ACS’s direct sibling in the product line, the Amp Academy, is even further away… even with the “4K” upgraded amp models.

So, I have no explanation for this, only a theory as stated above. But I’d really appreciate or love it if someone in a position to test these two or three items and see if you hear what I do. I’m perplexed a bit ans to what’s going on and mighty curious. Maybe NUX has done some tweaking of the modeling process and this approach is something we’ll see in a flagship model that I believe is overdue. Or maybe I am batshit nuts and haven’t realized it yet! Good times.

Thank you for reading. I know it’s not the sexiest line of gear to talk about!
