Does anyone actually want these super tiny modelers?

Toys are fun. Especially cheap ones. Landfills are filled with them… I’m doing my part!

Some dudes are willing to bring a head and a 2x12 on casters to get the amp tone they want. Others just can't manage to deal with the size of a 6.92", 0.3 pound pedal. :beer

There is no “one size fits all” when it comes to this stuff, which is why there are so many choices on the market. For me, an FM9 in a Helix backpack is extremely lightweight and portable, but I spent my younger days in a bar band hauling a heavy-assed rack and cabinet around.

I miss my huge rack. It was a testament to my love of music and tone. Much more so than any amp or cab. Because it made me a creator instead of just a producer or consumer!

I still have my JMP-1 and 9100. In a rack with the Axe-FX and driving a pair of 1960s, it’s a religious experience. But the fucking rack weighs around 100lbs, and at this point in my life I have no interest in hauling that anywhere.

Here's my use of mini-pedals (the ToneX One for tube power amp sims and a custom LoZ to HiZ X-former with a fixed 50's style tone circuit, which allows the JCM800 tube preamp's V1a to think it's seeing passive guitar pups directly while in the FM3's FX Loop)...

...which runs this preset at 77% CPU on a OG non-Turbo FM3...

.....no room for BOSS size here.

Are you using the tonex one pedal cause you had it laying around or is there something in the poweramp realm that you feel fractal is missing?

I know we all like different stuff but I always thought their modelling was top notch and the thought of adding another point of failure to the pedalboard would mean an insta no from me, just keen to hear your take on it.

Fractal does not offer a tube power amp model for use with my various tube preamps (and the Lord knows I've asked for some LOL!). IME using any of their amp models setup as linear as possible in the preamp section, for purposes of a tube power amp sim is simply not the same as using a capture of a tube power amp all by itself (though the amp block setup correctly can work pretty well for a tube power amp sim if that's all you have, used it that way for years). In other words, I prefer the Tonex One as a tube power amp sim but not as a full amp modeler, while I prefer the Fractal amp block as a full amp modeler rather than a tube power amp sim, make sense LOL?

Also, as stated it gives the the FM3 dual amp capability which it lacks.

The Fractal component amp modeling is simply the best (IMO), and clearly ahead of all others with regards to their full amp modeling (IMO), which I use as well, however you'll never get realer than the real thing.

It's funny as I look at these various pedalboard pictures with the stage connections plugged directly into the Fractal device, and then people complain about a few unstressed wires on the pedalboard itself. All it takes is one person to trip on your stage wires and you'll likely break the Fractal's connectors, be out of business, and be sending your device back for repair while any properly routed wires on the pedalboard itself are pretty safe from damage. If you notice there's a custom patchbay on my pedalboard underneath the Tonex One, which protects my FM3 from any damage in the event someone trips on some stage wiring on a blacked out stage (it happens...), and there's also a USB Extender cable to protect the fragile USB 2.0 Type-B port as well. Better safe than sorry IMO!

Small ones like the tonex don’t interest me .
To much faffing about .
The white Joe Satriani version looks better than the black imo.😎
