I got this in today. I’ve had a chance so far to run it up against my red DLS (set to SL), DS-1X and Cusack Meta-Plexi through a mono Neunabor Echo to a Mooer X2 Cab with YamahaStudio 8’s headphones. All sounded pretty sweet.
1) Cusack - vintage mode with gain cranked rips. It has that Plexi clarity with gain. AC/DC on steroids that rings nicely
2) DLS - full stack sound. Thick bottom and mids. Highs are refined. Enough gain without boost
2.1) DS-1X - Super sweet and flexible with none of the loose bottom or harsh uppers of the OG. underrated
3) JCM-900 - It has the bite you expect. It has the extra gain over the 800. At first it sounds perfect, then you realize the bottom is a bit too loose for those gain levels. So it likely needs an SD-1 for sculpting. A bit disappointed. Looks better in person than online.
Surprise thrown in the mix and relevant to also having power amp simulation in the equation?
Nux Amp Core Studio with Neunabor Echo in loop on to headphones blew them all out as far as classic marshall brown sound. So good. Form factor’s perfect. I could add my immerse and have 3 smallish pedals covering tons. I think those pursuing tube power amp tones to add to things are really on to something. When I have time perhaps I’ll run the drives though some clean/ish amps on the Nux and see how it goes. Good I’ll bet.
