Boss SY-1000

Boss SY-1000 has a new firmware released version 1.10
which fixes an Alternate Tunings issue previously

Great!

I've had my SY-100 collecting dust for a long time, until yesterday when I saw this video by aliensporebomb testing the upgrade, so I've decided to update it and bring it back to live.

I'm tempted to also bring the VG-99 out of the closet (I sold it when I got the SY-1000, and bought it again because I missed some sounds), but the days are too short 😄

You're not going to get better than the Boss stuff for this.

Indeed. Until the day that El Gran Jefe @FractalAudio gets into pickup and guitar modeling, and polyphinic processing :geek:

The SY-1000 can also take a regular guitar input and do the same as the SY-300, but using a GK pickup lets you do things per string, different tunings per string, different tone source per string (you have 3 tone sources which can be of modelled instruments or synths plus a normal pickup source).
Technology is not at a place (yet) where a regular input will let you do per string tunings or instrument models.
I see. Well, I don't think I need different timings and sources per string (it's nice but I wouldn't really use that at least at first). As long as the synth sounds are good, I'd be more than happy.

However, I'm reading that with regular guitar input the sound is a bit worse, so I dunno... I would currently wait until that specific part improves.

I had a GR55 with a GK...3? Not sure of the number. It was quite fun, but a bit frustrating to use sometimes, and I ended up selling it.

I'd rather wait until technology evolves enough for this kind of devices to work way better.
Used to have a GR-55, dedent tones, but despite everything I tried the tracking was... not good. And setting up the presets... just fugeddaboudit.
Sold it. Now I just focus on playing guitar... life is good!:beer

I heard that Robert Fripp forced himself to play a little "in advance" to compensate the tracking delay. I didn't care to verify, but if it's true, it's inhuman🤣
