BOSS VG-800

Somewhen at Boss:
Developer: "Let's add Pitch-To-MIDI to the GT-100, but let's make sure to never tell anyone, so only the most inquiring minds will find out once they're exploring deeply nested utility menus!"
Sales department: "Yeah, that sounds like a clever idea!"

It's not like it's not already obtuse as fuck and niche feature to the nth degree. They are terrible about this. Always have been.

Boss: "Phew, good we never mentioned P2M in the GT-100 anywhere! Now we can take it away from the sucessors and ask people to buy our GKs and related hardware!"

Yea, when I rarely do successfully navigate a Boss manual and solve a mystery I was facing in the first read I get that equally rare Deja vu sensation from high school ‘Wow! I might get a good grade in this class this semester!’

In defense of Boss: Their hardware is usually almost outstanding, though. Built to last.
And even if setting up and navigating their uber-convoluted UIs is as shitty an experience as it gets, now that I'm basically done with my GT-1000 main setup, the only thing I can say is that I love it, inspite of all the horror and the partially bad sounding amps. There's just not a single other unit which would allow me to run my setup pretty much exactly the way I always wanted to have things.

And maybe that's precisely what could be said for a lot of Boss devices. There's zero competition for GK pickups, SY, VG and Guitar-To-MIDI in general. Gives them a lot of leeway for stupid UI decisions.

To add on to this; the GM800 had some SERIOUSLY bad tracking when it was released. They did a fw update and it was MUCH better after that. Credit where it's due and all that.

I think this is the same (audio) guitar to midi that was in GT100. I think its separate from the GK pickup stuff. Could be wrong. VG800 parameter guide.

Anyway... I REALLY want to get one of these. Because if it has the acclaimed boss low latency, it will work great as a front end / 4cm for my amp for drives/gate.

But also all the GK midi stuff, alternate tunings, and guitar simulations.

I honestly / personally believe this is a GT1000 Core with GK pickup stuff added. Someone else who has used a GT1000 core would have to confirm if any effects/amps are missing.

Edit: Actually it seems to be a hybrid of the GT100 and GT1000. It has the fixed dual path routing of the GT100, but the amp models match the GT1000. So maybe simplified routing, but same effects? Plus GK? Still very interested.

The entire unit is more or less a SY-1000core with some gt-1000 and vg-99 thrown in. Rehashed stuff.

I'm in. I've had a GR-55 and GP-10. The acoustic modeling worked well for my needs and is my primary requirement. I liked it much more than Variax modeling. This + my GM800 will simplify my cover band life as I get stuck covering a lot of ground. The two side by side will be about the width of my FM-9 but half as deep. FM-9 is great but I can live w/Boss amp models in exchange for virtual guitar and synth in a smaller footprint. I only need 2-3 models and real world accuracy isn't an issue. I'll probably have room to use a few real pedals in addition to them. Plus I've already got a GK-5 on one guitar and another sitting in a box so I'm good to go.

I may go off the deep end and integrate them with my GT-5 for fun.
