Boss GX-1

I’m curious with those who have experience with the Boss multieffects units- have they ever glitched out in any way or had physical parts fail?
I had a GT-6 I used live at the time shit the bed hard during a gig and it never recovered, but to be honest I abused the unholy hell out of that board physically.

Back in the GT-6/8 days I never had any hardware issues. It’s been about year back on the GT-1000 and so far so good. Honestly, my digital stuff has been waaaay more consistently reliable than any tube of solid state amplifier I’ve had.

It’s cheap, has the modeling from the GT1k series, it looks easy to use, and it’s from an extremely reliable brand you can find in stores. Not much to complain about.

I saw a lot of people complaining about midi…it’s $220. There are tons of boss units that do midi. It’s not trying to be the heart of a $5,000 pedalboard, it’s a little modeler for a new player or a small backup/travel unit.

I dug through the manuals and it has all the amps and most of the effects from the big dogs. It does look like stereo delays are going to be a huge gap…doesn’t appear to be any dual delay in the unit. Would need to see one in more action to confirm.

Otherwise it looks super cool. Like the fractal am4, it’s an easier approach to editing which looks more appealing than the more complex units.
Yes, the Boss GX-1 is a
stereo multi-effects processor.
It is equipped with Left/Mono and Right output jacks, allowing for stereo operation.
Key Stereo Features:
  • Outputs: 1/4-inch L/R output jacks.
  • Headphones: 3.5mm TRS stereo headphone jack.
  • Effects: Features stereo reverb and delay effects.
  • Audio Interface: USB-C connectivity supports stereo recording

“Yeah. Y’all got any of them holistic modeling platform thingys?”

"It's like, hollistic dude."

I don’t really care for that demo where they just have backing tracks and try to play like cover music, but I’m sure they’ll be other people who buy these that make demos of the sounds and the stuff inside of it

And well, tbh, I don't see why anyone would buy these kinda small standalone modelers from Boss anyway now that there's Valeton.

I've got one on order. I already have a Gx-10. I decided to try the Gx-10 with my acoustic awhile ago. It sounded great. I was thinking of getting another Gx-10 for the acoustic but this fills my needs immensly. I tried an Ampero and I thought it was rather lame.I also tried a Donner Arena, was ok but options were limited. Both were sold. The GX-1 will be perfect!

Can you use it in stomp box mode, though? I don’t think they have switches that you can turn the effects on and off with your feet. I see those little hexagonal things, but that’s kind of useless if you’re using it live.

what you can do with the footswitches. Momentary switching? Dynamic switching? Preset spillover

Yeah, it seems to lack the "manual" mode of the GX-10 (or whatever it is they call stomp box mode).....

See p. 40 of the Parameter Guide:
* MODE can be either TOGGLE or MOMENT[ary]
* PREF can be MEMORY or SYSTEM, so you can assign your footswitch settings to be global or per preset.

So basically the default is SW down and SW up are set to preset down and up respectively, and both are set to SYSTEM so that it's global.

Since I don't need to change presets with my feet, I'd probably change all that so I'd have 2 more switches to use for various things, per preset.

Still deciding whether to get one....

Was the old gt1 like this too?

That video is pretty decent! He does err at the end when he says it doesn't have a looper -- um, "LOOP" is literally silk-screened right on the device!

Yes you can but you would need either the FS-6 or the FS-1-WL. The triangle things change the patch. C1 changes effects. If you want to say, put a delay, plus up the volume or add a phaser it can all be controlled with the C1. You can control many effects with that C1. But more options with the Fs-6 and the FS-1-wl
