Jamming with tracks solution needed

I'm looking for a way to play a song, and jam along with it, all in the box with either the laptop or Ipad. I do have an SSL2+ to plug the guitar into. I'd like to play something from my music collection, and have software in the box for modeling, plug some headphones into the SSL and jam along with tracks.

I need to re-learn or practice some of the old songs I played years ago. I can play tracks over the monitors and jam with amps or modelers but want to do this after the wife is in bed, so an all in one box with headphones solution is what I need. What are you guys using for this?

You can do this with Tonex, NAM, and I would imagine any DAW plugin. Audio settings under Windows might be tricky at first, but it works fairly easily on a Mac.

Yes, thought about that, but I'm not looking to upload a track into a DAW to play along with, I'm thinking more like an album or two a night.

Heh, my 1986 teenager bedroom “don’t piss off the parents” rig was a portable cd player, a Scholz Rockman, and a Radio Shack four channel mixer. That was my evening practice rig for a number of years, and basically how I learned to play the guitar.

Stream the audio from a phone via BT options:

nux air: small BT capable amp with basic modeling, comes with a wireless. Stream audio via BT or mini trs

Boss Gigcaster, small mixer, BT capable, has flagship Boss modeling inside, basic routing capabilities though.

Kemper player, Nano cortex…probably any small modeler?….are BT capable to stream audio from your phone.

iPad with any class compliant audio interface? They run daws/guitar modeling plugins. Not sure how to handle both the modeling and audio playback at the same time though. (Unless you load your tracks into the daw…that would would be a hassle imho.

Actually, I have an iPad routed right into my Soundcraft Notepad 12, along with my Atomic AA12, and that goes to my Focal monitors. But that's in the music room. I'm hoping form something I can do in the living room with just guitar, SSL> ipad or laptop.

If you’re not looking to upload the tracks to a DAW, then I’d recommend a routing solution of some sort.

Can it be tied to hardware or a computer? What kind of computer are you using?

you can do this with any audio interface (I use my Quad Cortex but I’ve done it with my Focusrite Scarlett, HX Stomp and a Headrush unit) your iPad or your PC I imagine. You just need a DAW or a standalone amp sim (this is assuming you’re just playing the songs back, I use Apple Music for that).

aren't the waza air headphones, katana go, fender headphone amp, nux headphone amp, etc. all made for exactly that purpose. All have full featured amps and effects modeling, and you connect your audio to them all with bluetooth from your phone, ipad or tablet, or computer if it has bluetooth. I have the waza airs and katana go and have performed many late night rock concerts.......without even waking up the cat.

This was my next recommendation. One of those “plug” style modelers that you can stream audio to via Bluetooth is about as simple as a rig you can get for this application.

About the cost of a cheap audio interface that actually has a built-in interface. Add the free Garage Band app on an iPad and you have a killer portable jam/practice setup.

But I prefer to play the music from a music player. I don't want to load individual tracks into a DAW. I want to put on an album and play every song on it, then maybe redo that, or move on to the next one. The purpose is to brush up on some things I haven't played in a while and get back to having those songs DOWN and ready to play live
