What gear from genres much different than your own give you GAS?

I get pulled down the same kind of rabbit holes and then will occasionally will stumble into something that the same people praising how inspiring the limitations of tge OP1 are also get excited about something tmTHIS obviously stupid and it brings me back down to reality:

I mean... clearly a toy, no more and no less. What's brought into focus more than anything is that $399 means very different things for different people. (And that some people don't think twice about feeding little PCBs to landfills.)

There's a whole virtual parallel in trying to keep up with the Ableton Live crowd. That product is about 20% DAW at this point, plus 30% mediocre plugins, and 50% "Packs" that go "bloop". At least it's cheap and there's no material waste (apart from whatever the server farms are already spewing out...)

There was a 6505 w/ a 1960A cab with T75’s for $665 yesterday. I almost jumped on it but had to call myself out for the ‘just like my dad’ mentality on finding a deal and having to have it. It hurt to not grab that, it’s a better deal than my EVH 50-watt/2x12 for $875!
I would not have escaped that purchase unscathed :ROFLMAO:

Wait. The 6505 and the 1960A for $665?? Maybe it's finally time to start acting like your dad.

There is lots of gear I love other people using but have no interest in playing. Pretty much all vintage falls in to this. Les Paul’s is another one, look great sound amazing but I hate playing them . I’ve owned at least a dozen, everything too and including an R9 but I get irritated by all the playing issues particularly at the top end and the fact that I way prefer a 25.5” scale . And as soon as a good trade shows up the first thing out the door is the LP.

Totally, Les Pauls especially vintage ones may be the coolest looking guitars on the planet but I don't love playing them and always fight the tone!

Also seeing Dann Huff using a Bogner 4x12 as his main and always loving the sound of the Bogner IR's, it would be awesome to have a Bogner 2x12.

Seriously, I have no room for these things and have no use for the volume they put out, but I'll be damned if it wouldn't be fun to have a pile of good 2x12 cabs (Bogner, Mesa, Orange, etc.)

FWIW; you can get some great tone out of a 2x12 without needing to absolutely crank it.

Who cares about the PCBs!!! The plywood is "sustainable"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess bluegrass is one of my genres as I’ve been learning flatpicking this year, but I really love the aesthetic of a bluegrass band. About as stripped as you can get in terms of gear, no amps pedals or bullshit. I think I’d have a lot of fun letting my inner redneck loose. I hope someday I can get together a bluegrass jam band.

My good buddy/former bass player now plays in a bluegrass band and while he’s reigned himself in from our metal days, he finally just stopped wearing all black to their gigs and has to hold himself back from headbanging and flippin’ that upright around in circles like he did in our band-

Same dude, same bass, 18 years ago-

Yeah, both were $665.

I want the cab more than the head, but you’re right, I definitely could have bought them then just flipped the head for even $600 and got a $65 4x12. I’ve sometimes been guilty of dad-behavior in buying something for cheap with the intent to sell it and then never actually selling it, especially items I dig and a 6505 would most certainly end up collecting dust in my apartment. :rofl

Especially considering every time I list something on Marketplace I get stuck in endless messages with lonely people looking for friends and there’s already 4-5 6505’s sitting between $500-$1000 that have been sitting for months on there.

That said, I just checked to see if it were still available. :ROFLMAO:

It's like he has no idea how bad running an acoustic instrument is for FOH sound or something. I can totally hear it bleeding into the vocal mic in that second clip.

You should have bought it and tipped the poor seller a dollar - the total would have been fitting for a hell of a deal!

That's a cool Bluegrass band name.

I never buy anything cheap with the expectation of selling it for profit, because frankly I'm too damned lazy. But I constantly play the "I can buy X if I sell Y" game, and then never sell Y, because frankly I'm too damned lazy.

Lots and lots of Y's collecting dust in my basement.
