Another electradyne thread

After sleeping on it, actually having second thoughts. It’s a solid 2.5-3 hours out of my life to go get a big heavy box that I don’t need and will likely flip at guitar center within 4 months for, what, maybe $150 profit? I should probably just stop posting in this sub forum

Least expensive one on the Verb is twice that and only listed as 'very good' - and the price was recently dropped from $895.

Something smells fishy at $300.
As I've tried to indicate throughout this thread, my market is not normal and should not be judged by Reverb listings. This dude is a loooooooong 3 hour drive each way to the nearest music store that might consider buying it from him; shipping an Electra dyne combo is pretty much a non-starter; aside from me there are a very, very small handful of folks that MIGHT see his listing and be interested. I haven't had my eyes on the listings so this may be his 3rd or 4th attempt. Regardless, if I do Take One For The Team, it will be an in-person transaction so I can give it a sniff to see if it smells like a boogie or an alewife.

At $300 I'd already be in the car regardless of anything lol

I keep getting tempted by EDs in the 800-900 range around here

I've never played an ED, but I will say that the way the power amps or returns or whatever are rather colored, even from channel to channel within the same amp. I do a lot of looping and for example, say I set a high gain loop that I want to play clean over. IF I manage to get the levels of the return to be balanced when changing (which even that is a challenge, because just because the channel volumes are balanced doesn't mean that return is going to be perceiving loops in the loop the same) the tone and feel of the loop change too when I change channels. Not sure how that would pertain to modellers, but possibly worth mentioning. That also felt like a lot of gibberish to type out I'm only half awake

power amps in other mesas* I should say

amps like my ENGL thunder or 5153 or my old JVM do not modify the sound of the recorded loop at all when switching channels

Just to short out the situation and ensure I don't do something stupid/awesome, I sent the dude a message apologizing for bothering him and good luck with the sale. Which of course doesn't prevent me from messaging him again, but does at least add a required shift in inertia for that to happen...

I've got a cab I love, loads of speakers I love, a power amp to drive them...I don't need another tube amp to remind me why I don't own tube amps anymore....

So where exactly is the general area that this may be? Asking for a friend.

However, if you were looking for an excuse to visit Acadia National Park, not too far from there?
My friend says that it is too far away from him, but if he didn't have anything to do for the next month....it would definitely be worth the round trip. But alas, he is too busy.

He is very appreciative for your response, and thinks you live in a beautiful area.

100% agreed. You’re in a different kind of land up there from the entire rest of the US. Something I wasn’t fond of growing up, but when I was in and around my hometown on my vacation I found a lot of it incredibly endearing at 41.
