The irony here is that people have been chasing certain sounds that they heard on records for decades, and modeling makes it possible because the entire signal chain comes into play.

Before modellers were ubiquitous, I used to listen to recordings and become frustrated that while my CD player and stereo could accurately reproduce the sound of a cranked Plexi at room volume, my guitar amp couldn't.
