Reissue of the Spyder, not so interested

Reissue of the Steeler (and seven string versions!) VERY excited

Reissue of the Autolatch (dumbest business move ever to kill that thing) - SUPER excited

New Retrofit Autolatch for Floyd Rose tremolos!!!!!!!!!!! HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!! TAKE MY MONEY!!!!!!!

Spyder was a Floyd copy with some arguable improvements but a sad fulcrum.

Steeler was a full steel floyd copy with to me a LOT of advantages over the OFR

Autolatch was a device that turned the bridge into a fixed bridge if you pointed the tremolo arm down. Wilkinson sort of did a similar thing a decade later but it didn't work so well as it relied on plastic

The comments on that thread and on Facebook suggested it may work on any 37 mm block, maybe even the Gotohs, and maybe more sizes coming out

YES. I am he...

Didn’t the steeler use the same sheets as Waterford Cycles and Standard? That wouldn’t just be steel but cro-mo. Not sure where I heard that though or if I’m getting it right.

On the steeler? Or the spyder? I don’t think the steeler would have more parts than a Floyd. Or do you mean the auto latch part? The lock blocks look really weird on the Steeler pictures. How do those work?

I meant like the ones on the Kahler cam trems, like the Kerry King, for instance. It would be cool if any of these new ones sounded as good as a Floyd. I've read good things about the original Steeler and Spyder trems. But it's crazy they mentioned it won't even fit in a Floyd route without modifications.

I thought the steeler would...maybe not. I'd love actual evidence that any tremolo sounds different than any other. It seems plausible, but when challenged, there never seems to be any evidence.

Watching the video, there are some useful things like the replaceable knife edges, but also a lot that seems "better" just to be different.

I don't know about you, but for me the biggest pain points of a Floyd Rose trem are:
  • The locking nut. I can't believe nobody has made a better one that is simpler to open without tools or without looking like some ugly thing. When you run out of range on fine tuners and have to unlock the nut and tune with regular tuners, it's always a whole process of finding the right allen key etc.
  • Intonation adjustment. Using the tool that latches onto the bolt helps tremendously but it sucks that you need it in the first place.
  • Tuning it since you need to carefully balance the strings, like most floating trems. Not sure if the auto-lock would help with this and if it will stay in tune when you unlock it to floating.
The Kahlers don't seem to do a whole lot to solve this and not making them a retrofit for Floyd Rose trems seems like a big missed opportunity.

First off;
The Auto latch was using Steinberger copyrighted tech and Gibson stopped it.
The spider is hot garbage But the Steeler was fantastic.
The key improvements were the saddles are all the same because the baseplate has steps and the intonation thread is in the saddle. Also by flipping the internation bolt the saddle is always clamped in the centre. I seriously hope that the new one is metric though.
It fits on Floyd stud position but has a symmetrical footprint so only direct without a recess route. It would have been pragmatic to alter this to the same as OFR, Gotoh did this with the changes from 1988 to 1996 but they left the bolts too long until recently.
If it is exactly the same as the original the Steeler will fit in the Ibanez Edge route directly but you will need to swap out the edge posts for 1996 posts. This is very easy because the body inserts are the same thing for each of those. You are opening the angle of the V grove to accommodate the different angle of the knife edge on the Steeler.

Have you ever actually tried a Kahler standard on a strat ?? Absolutely a tone sucking pos.

These comments are based on the original versions and the new ones may be not as well built as they were so I still need to see the reissues . Also The steeler seams to have been modified so again we will have to see. The BS about the fine tuner is not a good sign and clueless RoxyLab video is as I expect: clueless .

Steinbergers copyright on the Jam Trem must be up.

That's the Spyder, the one nobody likes

Kahler did, they made the pro nut or whatever, locking with levers you can flip instead of needing an allen wrench

  • Intonation adjustment. Using the tool that latches onto the bolt helps tremendously but it sucks that you need it in the first place.

Kahler did on the Steeler with the intonation screw built into the saddles so you could move the saddles similar to how you would on a regular fender bridge

  • Tuning it since you need to carefully balance the strings, like most floating trems. Not sure if the auto-lock would help with this and if it will stay in tune when you unlock it to floating.

The Steeler fits in a regular floyd rose route, the Spyder does not exactly.
