Wish: More Pedals with Digital Audio I/O

With the VP4 and FM9, can you send out the SPDIF, and return to the SPDIF, to use it as an effects loop for the VP4? I know with the FM3, you can only run out, since the FM3 doesn't have an SPDIF input.

What kind of responses did you get? Were they simply not interested because they were afraid their userbase would not understand that you need a box like that for the pedals to work?

I wonder about that too. It would be a little more complicated than analog, but it wouldn't be much different than power supplies, and there has been some degree of standardization on those. I suppose one problem might be integrating analog pedals into a SPDIF rig like that.

I imagine it would be kind of a reluctant purchase for a lot of people. Power supplies aren’t the most fun thing to buy. You just got all these nice pedals and now you have to drop another 200 on a power supply? I imagine people would have similar reactions to this kind of box.

That’s why I think a wireless unit would be a good way to sell this idea. People love wireless, and it necessarily has to be the first thing in the signal chain, and if it’s a digital wireless unity, then that might as well be the AD conversion hub.

So @FractalAudio, maybe instead you can get the ball rolling with this idea by making a super cool pedalboard wireless unit that has spdif
