Why Do I Feel Like Yes Is The.....

i like yes when i hear em... but for me, i think its always gonna be fripp when it comes to prog. i just dig king crimson over the ages more, and i think the records have aged better on the whole- as well as fripp kinda adapting better and working with so many other contemporary luminaries.

same with peter gabriel- and even though he kept pace with the time, he did make some serious cheez wiz  but on the net hes made some bangers over the years that held up.

yes, though, had some insane pyrotechnics.

Damn, I didn't know The Buggles (Video Killed The Radio Star) was Trevor Horn & Geoff Downes!

Yup. Not the whimsical creation of some out of touch A & R guy. :lol Shocking how
good that band was when you really listen to them.

I always liked the ABC songs from that era too.

I think mid to late 1980s is peak production in a lot of ways. Mostly all analog. But
with killer studios. Synths had matured by that point.

It's not the shove everything and the kitchen sink into the mix and leave no room
for any kind of separation f amongst the instruments of today.

Or maybe I am just waxing nostalgiac. It just sounds so good. I miss that forward
Bass guitar in the mix, too. So many tunes where that up front Bass was driving the
entire song. Now everyone jokes about Bassists not being musicians and burying
them in the Mix.

All Bassists have kind of gotten Jason Newsted'd. Thanks, James and Lars.

Seriously, though.... with the proliferation of sub-harmonic bass and synth
bass, actual bass has kind of gotten the shaft. :idk

I only know the big hits from Yes, but have always appreciated and dug those songs. Not a huge prog guy in general, although I do love Rush. Yes has been on my "need to check out their classic albums in their entirety" list for a while.

Yep. That's why the early 80's was cool, still had the remnants of 70's funk bass mixed in with new wave and rock elements, and sparser arrangements that still left room to breathe. A lot of great stuff for sure.

Be warned all the Prog cliches apply.

The + side is Yes invented a lot of those cliches. :beer
