What was your FIRST show (as a spectator)??

I hope you yelled "Piss off you bloody wankers!" at them.
Yeah, I thought he said "proper" band LOL.

Jefferson Airplane was awesome though.

When I was working in Guitar Center way back '91, my manager tapped me on the shoulder, pointed to a tall blond dude looking at an SG and said, "Go say hi to Paul Kantner." I just sort of grinned awkwardly, not wanting to tell him I had no idea who Paul Kantner was. :D

IS THAT CRAIG CHOIQUICICICO?!?!?!?

Haha! I had nothing else going on in my crappy 14 year old life. Allow me this one indulgence! 🙂
I will allow it. ;) I'm just so damned jealous. Marillion didn't come on my radar until Misplaced Childhood dropped, but I became obsessed... and Fugazi is by far my favorite album. Derek Dick is IMO the greatest lyricist of all time.

Yes, but everyone calls him "Fish".

I imagine he encouraged that LOL.

(Fun fact: 90% of his songs are 75% about being drunk off one's tits, yet his nickname is a reference to his enjoying long baths.)
Better than putting a 'the' in his name I guess :bag

Trying to parse my way through this joke. Is it just the "Jesus you're old mbenigni" schtick?
It's not a joke. I was a metalhead, not a prog-head. I know the name Fish and Marillion but have zero familiarity with their songs/discog. They're a name in a Metal Hammer article when they wanted to not talk about Earache records stuff for my teenage brain.

Sorry, I was just confused because you were quoting re: Craig what-his-Starship guy when you replied.

In '84 I was listening mostly to Sabbath and Sabbath-adjacent (Ozzy, Dio) stuff, and Scorpions. Then I got heavily into Pink Floyd, particularly the Waters stuff (because he's the 2nd greatest lyricist of all time...) The Wall, The Final Cut, Pros and Cons...

Also listened a lot to the 80's zeitgeist pop of that era. There was no Bluetooth then. There were barely cassette players. You listened to some radio and you liked it, dammit. Police, Tears for Fears, et al. Still love a lot of that stuff.

Then I got to college and discovered King Crimson, Marillion, etc... which was mind-blowing.

But when all the smoke clears...

My first concert was on 04-17-1996. White Heart and Petra were on tour with Grammatrain and Johnny Q. Public as the opening acts. I was with my dad and it was at the University of Portland campus in Portland, OR. I would have been nine years old at the time.

I remember not liking Johnny Q. Public, but Grammatrain was really good. I bought their albums and still enjoy their music. White Heart's set was the highlight. They were a super tight band.

I will be kind of shocked if anyone on this forum has heard of any of these bands.

I remember Petra and White Heart!

Powerhouse was one of the first CDs I owned, my parents gave me a copy for my birthday.

My best friend had every Petra album on cassette and we would listen to them all the time at his house. He was later in a band who was produced by their bass player.

Move this to 86 and sub in Priest and Maiden for Sabbath. Then cut right to Slayer/Megadeth/Metallica in their absolute prime :satan

Police were always a given :love

Hearts for Police. :D Priest has always been uneven for me and Maiden never resonated at all.

I love that "Slayer/Megadeth/Metallica" sub in for your Prog awakening. :rofl
