I've always liked it as a shaper or maybe the occasional cocked wah position thing.

Same. Anyone who heard me play around that time got more wah than a Metallica concert :rofl
 
Only guys who have their phrasing, timing, articulation and motive development internalized should be allowed to shred. Many shredders don't.
This is also why Govan is so fantastic, because he's a musician in the first place, the guitar just being his way to transport music.

It blows my mind that a guy who only posts short clips of himself shredding, or samples of his online lessons actually has a goddamn signature Charvel.

Guthrie is a brilliant outstanding guitarist and a really nice guy .
I still haven’t seen anyone who can play a fretless guitar like him.
The man is a genius with no ego Just a massive love of playing the guitar.👌

Guthrie is one of the people who actually deserves the genius descriptor. Not only is he among the most elite musicians in the world, he is also a brilliant orator. He was pursuing a degree in English at Oxford University (one of the most prestigious Universities in the world) before decided to pursue music full time.
