Changed strings on both of those.

I think I finally fixed this saddle burr on my Blue Honu Majesty.

I had the same problem on my Enchanted Forest when it was brand-new, but it was 6 years ago, so I probably forgot about the method that I think finally did the trick.

This damn thing broke 2 high e's in less than 24 hours, and it couldn't all be attributed to most of my practice riffs using a lot of that string.

I try to go real easy with the abrasive cord across the saddle, because it can wear a groove into it if you're too aggressive, and because it's where the Piezo tone comes from, I obviously didn't want that to happen.

But after I broke that 2nd string in such a short time period, I had the proverbial 'lightbulb above my head' moment': Instead of pulling the cord back-and-forth across the saddle (in the direction of the string), pull it across the saddle. Yeah, DUH!!

I did that while rolling the cord and moving it back and forth slightly, kind of how you would move to different areas of sandpaper, if you were sanding wood.

I think that did it, cuz I haven't broken the high e again yet, and it's been almost a week. And with just a little bit of string tension, I slid the string across the saddle, and it felt smooth.

Played my new Friedman BE50 Deluxe. Still dialing in the return level and master volume for the overdrive channels. Pretty cool amp.

I’ve lost count of how many pickup swaps I’ve done to this thing but it was back to stock. It’s love/hate with the 490/498 set. But decided to swap back in a set of 57 Classic/+ I had. 👌

Switched to 50s wiring. Replaced the 2 tone pots while I was at it. Broke one so had no choice lol. I had some RS Guitarworks CTS pots.

Original modern wiring:

Rewired to 50’s wiring:

Traded a bunch of pedals I'm not using for this:

I found it decent playing enough that I took a chance as the Tet'addario strings were so corroded the unwound strings were black and the wound strings were deader than Lincoln. Thankfully, new strings make it sound great and it sounds as expected. I'm probably going to replace the dummy toggle switch for a solderless 3 way from EMG, then have 2 vol, 2 tone controls. I think the only reason it has two toggle switches (one is a dummy switch that does nothing) is to avoid Gibson trying to prevent the guitar from being sold in America. Came with a case as well.

Also tried a couple Les Pauls in Guitar Center that I believe do not have the usual Slim Taper garbage profile (yuck!), so I may need to pick up a Standard (50s or 60s) or a Custom 70s.

I mentioned elsewhere that last year I went into a few guitar shops in Dublin looking for a Tele, believing I wanted one because Julian Lage has one. And that I came home empty handed after not really gelling with any of them.

The Reverend Charger is exactly what I wanted the Tele to be.

Been playing this 1970s Gibson Johnny Smith for the better part of 2025, and I’ve decided to give it a rest for a few months and try something else. So I cleaned it up, including using string wipes that took quite a bit of the accumulated grime off the roundwound 11 set with the plain G.

Then dusted it and polished it a bit with a microfiber cloth before hanging it up with a humidity pack before the winter sets in, when the heater tends to dry out the air.

Now pondering which guitar to use for this week’s jazz jam session. ES-125?
