I’m all in on the new The Sound of Animals Fighting album. This is kind of a superband with members of Rx Bandits, Circa Survive, and Minus the Bear.

I’m over the moon with it. This is the opening track. Even if you aren’t into the first half, hang in there for the second half. I promise epic riffage. These guys can play. Their recordings are usually full live takes of the band.

When me and the Mrs. play the board game Ticket to Ride: Rails and Sails, I pick a CD at random as background music. This one is part of a 6 CD set of solo tanbur, an Iranian lute. At one point, we were both transfixed on the music and forgot about the game. This type of playing is a sort of spiritual technology that mystics and Sufis use to get into a kind of a meditative state.

Got on a Rx Bandits kick again. The musicianship is off the charts with this band. Every single player is playing cool stuff, singing cool harmonies, modulations and changes all over the place…
