There was a thread on another forum asking about CD storage solutions, and it prompted me to look through my CD collection. I'd been thinking about going streaming but wanted to see what I actually have before getting rid of it. I came across this CD, a compilation from a multi-part series.
It's got a sampling of some of the various musics that the individual volumes go into with more depth. The liner notes are well-done and informative. Finding this volume piqued my interest. I thought I had the whole series, but couldn't find it, so it might've gotten lost over the years. As shown in the contents of this series sample CD, there's quite a wide variety of music available.
And looking at the CD reminded me of the 1990s. I'd just given up guitar, after having a go at being a work-a-day musician during most of the 1980s but becoming disillusioned with the life of being an entertainer. I'd sold all my gear to study and travel, focusing on world music for most of the 1990s, which included studying the Turkish oud, the Gambian kora, the tabla drums, and other instruments.
In any case, parts of the full series are online. Here's some random tracks from this compilation CD.
After giving it a listen and reading the notes, I'll likely hold onto this CD, at least for the time being.
