New Avenged Sevenfold. I’m loving it. It’ll take a few listens for everything to sink in because this album is f*cking OUT THERE. Been listening to a lot of interviews with the band and I really appreciate how they approached this. Overall they just had zero interest in doing anything remotely familiar with their past music. Gates wasn’t picking up his guitar for huge periods because he was just sick of hearing the same sh*t he always plays, I can heavily relate.

I don’t expect anyone who hated them previously to jump on now, these guys are in a damned if they do, damned if they don’t situation where people just love to hate ‘em, but I don’t know of a single band that takes chances like this and I respect the hell out of it, especially for a “bunch of poser mallcore musicians”. There’s a ton of Mr. Bungle influence on this album, either in the music itself or just the “F*ck it, go for it” aspect.

This song is a perfect example, it sounds more like Dream Theater than A7X….well…to start….then it starts going in different directions.

They seem so young to me, to look at how professional they look on stage. Which I know is just my old-ass frame of reference, since the bands I had posters of on my walls as a teen were the same age.

They are pretty young, but they’ve been at it for a while. There’s all kinds of footage of them doing some TV stuff in Mexico before they started touring. I think the whole band thing started with them after they were playing Rockband or something. Pretty cool!

Yeah I saw that too. What a great family to grow up in though, huh?!
I think I remember another great band or 2 of siblings.

Going back about 11 years or so.

I really love these guys. Their vibe, the vocals, the guitars/bass/drums.

They just get it. They just kill it.

Indeed! Their early stuff is pure gold.... :chef .... and not in keeping with the U2 leanings of their
most popular work that most know them for.

Those first couple of albums are just edgy and urgent as fuck!

Just listened to the new album from Rival Sons called Darkfighter. Always wanted to like them, but their earlier music generally didn't connect with me. Really like this album!

I have no fucking idea what they are doing, or thinking.

I am inclined to give them an "A" for Ambition and an "E" for Execution.

It's like a fusion dish of mish-mashed cuisines that I am not really feeling is unified by
any single sauce/element to die the differences together.

But fuck yeah, this is like Steely Dan on Acid and Meth and XTC.

Oh yeah, fucking Auto-Tune Weezy style. :barf

I am NOT on board for this. Both Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters worked Pop/Hip-Hop/Nu-Wave/Disco
elements into their releases while not selling their souls and still making it a cohesive part of their
catalog.

This is just being different and pushing the envelope to be different and push the envelope. I am glad
they don't care what I or anyone else thinks, though. :beer
