Who did you see live recently?

I’m really upset I haven’t gone to a single red rocks show this year. Neee to clock at lest one in… historically I’ve gone to 10 + a season

Post-Covid ticket prices have gotten insane and prohibitive tho. $45 used to be the average post fees. I remember going to UM runs for $99 out the door for a 3 night pass

These days a red rocks show is pushing $100 for a single night. Shit sucks :(

The no cellphone thing really is a treat. You really don’t understand how much they distract/change the vibe/atmosphere until you’re on a balcony overlooking the crowd and don’t see a single lit up screen. Really hope this catches on more, or they give the people who want to film a row behind FOH to stand back there and film all they want without annoying everyone else.
It had it's advantages and disadvantages.

Saw Dinosaur Jr last night. J Mascis never disappoints. Dude rips on guitar! He even played bass for one song (a Rick no less) which sounded just filthy!!!

And J doesn’t mess around with the big iron well represented. Measured 110dB on my watch!

Oh good lord.
While that is awesome, I only ever played with stacked cabs once and my ear never forgave me - they can all go across the floor thank you very much.

Got the ferry from Helsinki over to Tallinn to see QOTSA. Pretty great gig. Josh was taking requests from the audience and the band is competent enough to switch gears and play anything from their discography. Kind of perfect balance between behaving like a rockstar and being a crowd pleaser. Jon Theodore is as good as they come and was just smiling the whole time. Troy is awesome to see too.

Smaller venue compared to the sort of places they play at in the UK so dead easy to get near the front.

Support band was one of the cringiest things I’ve ever seen. Some posh girl trying to be edgy and rap like Fred Durst

Wife and I traveled out to Colorado two summers ago to see Trampled by Turtles play at Red Rocks. Not my favorite band (wife's favorite) but oh my god that was a bucket list moment. Colorado is such beautiful country and can't wait to go back!

Awesome!

I saw them back in 2018 or so at First Avenue, it was super cool seeing J's massive wall of amps lol. Also saw them open for Weezer last year but that was a stadium tour so you could barely see or hear anything and they only played for like 25 minutes.

Never seen QOTSA but I did see Troy play with Jane's Addiction a couple years ago and he was flawless.

Went to see Cardinal Black last night at a tiny club called 7th Street Entry (part of First Avenue). Really fun show. Chris Buck as expected is a phenomenal guitarist but oh man the singer Tom Hollister is incredible. Only bummer is the mix was a little off so I couldn't hear the guitar much outside of some of the solos. Great crowd interaction too where they got the entire crowd singing parts which was fun.

The opener was a singer/songwriter named Tom Jenkins, he was amazing. Highly recommend checking him out. It's not often one guy with a guitar can completely captivate an entire crowd who's never heard him before.

It was weird though being one of the youngest people in the crowd at 42 years old!

Ha! That’s the previous I had seen them as well! First Ave in 2018. This time was at Royal Oak Music Theatre (Detroit burb).

I was lucky to see QOTSA during a small run of club shows in ‘02 either right before or as Songs for the Deaf dropped. Was at the Shelter in Detroit. Small room below St Andrew’s Hall. Capacity of 400. My mind was blown!

Dave Grohl was drumming for that small tour. Lanegan was there too, alive and well singing like he does for a couple songs.

Literally one of the best shows of my life.

I think the last show I saw was either Maynard from Tool's Sessanta with Primus, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer playing, or it was Geoff Tate. I need to see what's coming around, I know Nicko McBrain and Joey Belladonna are making their rounds at the rock club by me again, I'll go check those out but I'm not sure what bigger bands are playing. Dream Theater is in September I think, it's been 22 years since I've seen them live so I'll be stoked for that.
Seeing Dream Theater this September as well, super stoked!

Just saw:
Mammoth WVH - tight 30 minute set, would have loved more
Daughtry - filling in for 3 Doors Down who is out because lead singer has stage 4 cancer - good, but an hour seemed a little too much
Creed - amazing - still got it!

I got to see Foo Fighters play a secret show at First Avenue back in 2002. I think he brought out Bob Mould for one of the songs. QOTSA in a small venue around that time would have been amazing!

Seems like most of my favorite bands only play large venues nowadays...I miss being able to see these bands in ~ 1500 cap venues like First Ave. Last one was maybe Dinosaur Jr or Jawbox I think.
