What are you listening to right now ?

Been listening nonstop to the newest Soccer Mommy album. Fantastic throwback to 90's indie rock, really good singer and songwriter.

If you want to completely lose it, listen to the first track off the album, "Lost", about the death of her mom. Wow.

One of those bands that I always knew would be up my street but only bothered giving them a proper go within the last year. Also one of those ones where you end up recognising more songs than you expect. Seeing them later this year, they’re doing an 8 day residency at Brixton.

Killer band. Did that EQD Pedal drop this past week inspire this? :idk

I had a big LCD Soundsystem phase in the 2000s and honestly have
not thought of them since this past week.

I may go on a Guided By Voices kick next week. :cheers

I didn’t even know there was one. A friend of mine has been on my case about them for a while, and I’d dabbled here and there but the gig announcement gave me a kick up the arse

I think it just came out. Like within the past week or so.

Im in love with thrash again….

This album is absolute savagery…. Especially song on 12:30 mark…. Cant get enough….:rawk:rawk:rawk:rawk:rawk:rawk:rawk

One of the greatest songs ever written and performed.

People call me an "old soul", bland, boring; inspite of being a woman in my early 20s because I like songs like these.

Listened to the album last night. Not as bad as I feared, nor as good as I hoped. Feels like they’ve just phoned it in for the last few albums, 10 songs just scraping 30 mins. the choruses tend to flop out and the riffs sort of wash together without any big epic moments. The days of KSE writing genre defining bangers feel long gone, and the more albums they release, the more that first Times of Grace album starts looking like one of KSE’s best albums.

Really good drum/bass/guitar tones on the album, although IMO the guitars and vocals are too quiet and the drums a bit too loud. To me it sounds like a rough mix with good source sounds but like it’s ready to be taken up a notch and get all the dynamics and emotion hyped up.

For fun I tried recreating the guitar tone, interestingly I got pretty close by running the 5150 with mids REALLY high up (like getting towards max), running it through a Marshall V30 cab. Not how I typically run a 5150 but it works well for this stuff and is worth a go.

Diving in now. The drums are definitely a bit more forward, or a lot more, depending on one's tastes.

I try to keep in mind that an objective reference for mixing changes and the goalposts of one era are
not the goalposts of another era.

It's fun so far. I am probably not the person who listens with ears and analysis as good as yours. I do
music for the enjoyment. Is it fun and interesting? If so I can manage a subjective divergence away
from my own ideals that the artist/band/producer may have made.

Discordant Nation is a banger! :headbang

Every great Athlete has their favourite moves. Bend it like Beckham, right? Those moves
and the tricks they pull on the playing field, for me, are a lot like the iconic moves of
an Artist/Band/Musician. KSE has those epic resolutions into the Chorus that are just so
iconic. Build all that tension in the Verses, and then BOOM! Drop those Melodi-Choruses. :chef

Totally on board with this. :rawk

Are you a fan of their previous stuff or are you just diving into them now?

I must be a sucker for teaspoon or 3 of Sugar and Saccharine in Metal. :love

I Believe has all the empty calories. :banana

Fuck this Album is really, really good to my shattered ears.

I Believe right into that killer intro Riff of Where It Dies. Hell yeah! :headbang

Super shreddy solo, too. :rawk

Oh yeah.... longtime listener. I used to watch Set This World Ablaze on DVD about once a week
there for a few years. I had that in rotation (before YT dominationa) with Porcupine Tree's
Arriving Somewhere
and Corrosion of Conformity's Live Volume.

Now we have instant access to everything to increase the speed of our descent into hyper-jadedness.
