I love 66crusher. Songwriting-based Prog Metal from Norway. I love their first three albums, and I'm finally listening to their fourth, called LImbo, which is just as great. I love progressive rock and metal, but to me it's best when the prog elements are very much in service of the songwriting, rather than the song serving to showcase the technical feats.

One of my favorite KISS songs. I am a huge KISS fan, but I FUCKING HATE their anthemic crap (RARAN, for instance) and can see why people hate them, thinking all of their songs are along similar lines.

First three songs = very awesome.
Unfortunately, the rest of the album sucks hard. The total lack of Ace throughout (whether he plays on any of the songs or not, none of it sounds like something he'd come up with at all) is another reason I rank Destroyer very low. Flaming Youth, Sweet Pain, Shout It Out Loud (another anthemic track, though it is somewhat better than RARAN, though I prefer Love Gun's Tomorrow and Tonight), Beth, etc. bore me to no end. It took Bob Ezrin three goddamn times to produce a great KISS album, and only then because he was doing his best Bob Rock impression.

In closing, Destroyer is meh and FUCK Bob Ezrin. He breaks up bands (Alice Cooper group, KISS).

In honor of their first US show, I’m watching Hitsujibungaku’s live DVD. Just a killer trio out of Japan playing alternative guitar rock. I don’t understand any of it but the Japanese singing offers some melodies that are different to an American ear. They have a large catalog and it’s all solid.
