What are we watching now?

Started A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms last night. GOT spin-off of some sort? 2 episodes in and I really like it. Different story and much different tone than the original series. They look to be doing the Grogu thing and so far; it's working.

First episode really turned me off but maybe I should keep going

Another movie I tried to watch 'If I had Legs I'd Kick You'

Weird A24 AF anxiety thriller. Starring Rose Byrne and Conan O'Brien. Great performances, great visuals/cinematography. That being said; probably the most annoying movie I have ever tried watching. We get it. Husbands are terrible. Children are terrible. Women are on the verge of a breakdown every moment of every day. I have no idea what the point of this was. Other than drive me nuts in the worst of ways. Good lord.

Just saw "Uncut Gems for mothers" review on Letterboxd. First thing I thought of when having a panic attack watching it!
:rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

I'd stick with it - I felt the same, but then when I adjusted from the Game of Thrones/House of Dragon serious vibe it was much better. The characters develop well over a few episodes too as you get more backstory.

WTF is a grogu?

Or a GM?

Watched the "Spinal Tap II: The End Continues" last night! Depressing of course to see a vibrant Rob Reiner playing his last role. And the last scene of the movie (into the credits as they start rolling while B footage type stuff is played), OMG, talk about happenstance!

IMO, not as good as the original, but still very funny.

One of the highlights for me was seeing David St. Hubbins playing that PRS SC for 80% or more of the time he was on screen with a guitar!

Rest In Tap Marti DiBergi ;~))

Yeah it's been surprisingly good so far.
I like it being in the same general geographic space and genre but being entirely it's own thing. I am interested to see if they draw this particular competition over the entire season or if they move on to different things before it's over.

I watched House of Guinness on Netflix. Plot line mostly not even slightly based in reality. First half of the show was compelling, second half devolved entirely into a salacious horndog trashy soap opera based entirely around sex scenes :rofl

It was an entertaining watch through out but the shift in tone and style half way through was a bit puzzling lol

It’s set up for a second season already with a plot devise that is completely outside of the actual history of Guinness

Came across this short silent video on my laptop, various scenes of New York City from 1911. It was labelled Museum of Modern Art and perhaps it is available to watch online, but taking these random screen caps gave me some time to ponder the scene beyond the brief seconds of video.

Watched with the Mrs. while visiting her family abroad. She could recognize some places from our visits there over the years, iconic structures mostly. I noticed all the men are wearing hats, women decked out in Sunday best, place references to Africa, Britain, China, various modes of transport.

As a third generation New Yorker, it evoked unseen memories. My grandfathers were children at the time, recent emigres from Europe who went on to become a sanitation worker and a waiter, and my father became a firefighter. I lived, studied, worked variously in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan.

Here is the B&W version:

And here is a colorized version (it is not the same length and I have not watched the full vids, so definitely some differences):

The hat is fascinating, a simple head cover but which takes on all sorts of significance.

A while back, after a friend’s grandmother had returned from a visit to a holy place, he asked her why she cried upon arrival at the place. We assumed it was tears of joy from revisiting the place after decades of being away. But for her, she cried the tears of sadness. When we asked why sadness, she said that nobody was wearing head coverings, as everyone used to during her previous visits. To her, it meant that people lost respect for the place, which indicated a decline in the faith that it once represented.

The hat thing in interesting because hats were a part of what you wore for many generations and it died out so quickly.
Yet the baseball hat is very popular and nobody thinks anything about that. I assume that a cowboy hat in Texas is also a fairly familiar sight.

That "fedora" meme of someone wearing a shitty trilby with their hoodie or graphic T-shirt did a lot of harm for perception about classic hats.

But there's nothing off looking about a fedora with a big wool overcoat, blazer or suit. That's how I wear them.
