What are we watching now?

Cool username origin story bro :ROFLMAO:

The Tales of the Jedi comic series was lit AF. I would definitely watch a series based on that.

looks like Disney already screwed that up with a show of the same name that has nothing to do with those comics? WTF???

And now I'm sounding like a star wars nerd again

At least you picked the right small species to name your band. Ewok would not hit near as hard :hmm

Watched this for the 63rd time last night......one of my all time faves.

IMO the only Star Wars movies that mean anything are New Hope and Empire Strikes Back.

I remember seeing Jedi in the theater when it came out, and even as a youth thought that movie was pretty silly.

Ewoks taking on the Empire. And winning. :facepalm

I didn't see any of the originals in the cinema. The first one came out before I was born. I'd say they were amazing at the time for audiences who never saw anything like that before. Tk me they were just the standard for VFX.

I'd say Jurassic Park is probably my equivalent for the same feeling of awe.

About film and television and DEI, I think the problem is that producers and directors are mostly hiring untalented models across the board, regardless of their background; big chunks of movie and TV history are just that for white people only too. I think if white people were a minority in film and tv right now, but the acting, writing, and directing were incredible, everyone would be clamouring for more people of different backgrounds.

To me Star Wars is a fucking soap opera. I have always loved The Empire Strikes Back, but even the big dramatic moment is straight out of a soap opera!

I think similarly. I find it a hard pill to swallow that DEI is the problem when white directors like Zach Snyder inflict Rebel Moon on us.

Standards just seem down everywhere.

What is DEI?

That's not how it works. It is a criticism shield to attack franchise fans. This is why you gatekeep your fandoms and don't let tourists ruin it.

This blew me away. Had no inkling who Rob was, Man, the insight into sound, technique,
and professionalism blew me away. And he uses one of my fave speakers ever---the ET65
from Warehouse Guitar Speakers.

One of the longer Rig Rundowns ever for a single person----but that's because of the
depth they get into, and the great questions and insights John Bohlinger also offers up.

Choice! :chef

Sorry, I've reread this many times but I'm not sure I understand what you're saying fully. Do you mean DEI itself is the criticism of fans? Do you also mean that when people who don't love the original material come in to turn it into a franchise they destroy what was great about the original?

They use contrived diversity, mainly just so producers can check boxes. When franchise fans show their dislike for the films or shows, the producers and filmmakers use the dislike for the film/show as an -ist or -phobe.

Gatekeeping your fandoms keeps out tourists who, as of late, tend to just do stuff that doesn't resemble the actual property.

Just watch the South Park episode about the Panderverse.

Even as a child I knew that spaceships don't behave like WWI dogfights (my Dad was a fighter pilot) and the Force was silly. I've "absorbed" the others from snippets herre and there over the years on TV and cable, and now YouTube.

Can no new franchises be created? Star Wars was made becuase Lucas couldn't get the rights to Flash Gordon.

I have never seen A New Hope: it isn't the same movie I saw once in the cinema when I was 12, and knew Han Solo was going to kill him in the bar once his hands were under the table. Straight from Westerns.

I wonder how many sequels, remakes, reboots, re-imaginings etc we'll get next. How many Star Wars projects have been announced and never appear?

The hate-watch shows for stuff like The Acolyte get more views than the show - which was cancelled, not the hate-watchers. But I just chuckle at that and coulnd't be be bothered.

"Put a chick in it...!"
