What are the best modelers available today?

Serious question-

Can anyone list all the various gear that does some type of amp modeling these days?

I know of-
Fractal
Line 6
QC
TMP
Kemper

Beyond that, and a few companies that do plugins, I get kinda lost as to what's out there.

Nux
Atomic

For me the ultimate modeler would still be some sort of weird hybrid:
  • Fractal amp/cab modeling and fx.
  • Helix drives and capacitive footswitches.
  • Quad Cortex form factor, touchscreen and encoders.
  • Tonex/NAM capture functionality.
There's just something every box does a bit better than other ones.

Mine would be:

Fractal amp models
Helix/Fractal mix of effects
Helix Floor form factor
QC captures (haven't tried Tonex/NAM)

Apart from the ones mentioned already:

Zoom
Mooer
Donner
Harley Benton
Headrush
Yamaha
Fender
Marshall
Blackstar
Hotone
Valeton
Behringer
Flamma
Humboldt
AMT
UA
Tech 21

And possibly yet another armada of dubious chinese knock offs.

Right on. There’s good money in bringing joy to women. Rock Stars come in many flavors.

Fred Garvin is the Rockstar of Rockstars.

A man to be admired and emulated.

A man to placed on a pedestal amongst the Pantheon of Men's Men.

A man to have a cheap cologne in a tacky 70's glass decanter named after him.

From my POV (which is nearly exclusively live gigs):

#1 (if you don't want to tweak a lot, or are coming from a tube amp and pedal board) Kemper Rack with Kemper Foot Controller.

This combo gives you a single POE connector to your foot controller out front (very little cable clutter), is super simple to setup and use live. If you know how amps and pedal boards work, then the Kemper will feel right at home for you. It is also my opinion that the Kemper offers the most amp like amp sounds of any digital device out there, but not by much as there are others that surpass it with specific amps, and others that get awful close.

#1 (if you like to tweak, and demand the best and most possibilities money can buy) Fractal Axe III FX with FC12 foot controller. There is simply nothing this rig can't do, if you take the time to make it do it. If you are into complex signal paths and effect and amp parameter changes in models, there is nothing better.

If you simply don't have the money for either of these options, I feel that the Helix offers the next best bang for the buck. It doesn't reach the capability of the Fractal or the simplicity and amp tone of the Kemper, but it is similar in both respects and a good deal less expensive.

Quad cortex is simply too small for live use IMO. Yes, it captures well and has good reproduction of tube amps, but it lacks in efx and the form factor is simply not good for live gigging IMO.

If you are moving down the price chain beyond these (all of these are pretty pricey), I really think it starts to be a matter of what you are trying to do with it as to what pedal is right for you. I would say that the lower end pedals (sub $500) are not anything I would gig with as they do not offer a format I would use for a live gig. I would let someone else field that category :).
