The Modeling Amplification Thread

I’m good with plugging into the return or “power cab in” of most amps.

What would be cool for the future Katanas and Catalysts would be if the EQ controls could double as a simple EQ before the power amp when you plug into the “power cab in” option. I know I can go into the global eq for this, but it’s nice to just be able to just twist a knob fast.
This is exactly why I go into the front end. It’s nice to be able to reach over and turn the eq knobs when needed.

In order of preference (for live performances) among the solution I have/had.

Tube amp FX return (using full models not pre amp only) into a 4x12 or 2x12 cab for personal monitoring + direct sound to foh if needed. That's the best solution I've experienced so far.

Floor wedges. I usually hate them for guitar monitoring in general.
I much prefer having my own cab on stage and use the wedges for everything else. Having your guitar on a different source helps your stage mix a lot.

I am like, "Only vocals through the wedges!!" I'll yell it to your face, too.
:rofl

And I just went back to a Tube Amp Rtn and a 2 x 12 Cab at our rehearsal
space/room, after running FRFRs for a year or more. I am pretty comfortable
with options, and have a few that I can make work. More about what I do and
not the gear. :idk

Still have my preferences, though. :cheers

options are great and having few of them is fun, interesting and useful at the same time.

When I was using a modeller (helix) in 4cm with the tube head, bringing only a spare power amp was the most practical solution when it comes to having a plan b (aka backups) at gigs.
Doing 4 cm with a modeller means you have a main and a backup already in place all the time:
the helix dies -> play the amp only;
the amp dies -> hook the power amp and keep going;
the cab dies -> go direct.

With the current pedal board + amp rig I bring the helix & power amp and leave them stage side ready to go.
