What’s going on with Marshall??

electric guitar hasn't been popular for at least a decade and the young people who are into electric guitar don't buy tube amps.
I think rock music and guitars in general are on a massive upswing as far as what kids are into. There’s tons of nostalgia from 20/30 years ago creeping into pop music at the moment, and social media like tiktok is putting more of a focus on individual talent (so you’re seeing people sing and play guitar and displaying their talent, which is far more impressive to watch than most DJ’s). There’s way more rock/indie/metal on mainstream radio than there has been for years. It’s no coincidence so many bands from that era are reforming and touring again, to cash in on the new generation of fans.

But yeah, I can’t imagine why any of them would think they need to spend £2000 on a valve amp. If you were a kid in this day and age, they’d presumably be spending it on lighting rigs and cameras over guitar amps.

Man I never thought about that but it's probably true. It would have sucked if I'd only ever played in my bedroom or on a video for people on the Internet. Playing live has been such a buzz throughout my life.

Though I suppose a lot of people playing on the Internet are playing to much bigger crowds than I ever did it's going to be a totally different experience between interacting with a crowd in person and virtually.

I've had plenty of valve amps.

I know guys who've never had one and won't use one though. One of my friends claims they're "fragile, unreliable and more hassle than they're worth". It doesn't matter what I've said or the fact that apart replacing a few valves I've never had any trouble with any of mine, he's just set on his opinion.

I've played for 20 years with a guy like that. Had a modeller (Zoom) when we met and we
gigged a bunch. He had one tube amp and never jived with it. I sold him a Peavey XXX
and he tried it all kinds of configurations with and without a modeller and pedalboard.

Great player and cool dude. Tube amps just aren't his bag. Never were. :idk

If everyone is all in on modeling; no need. If others in band have traditional guitar amps on stage and you have a modeler and monitor wedge; good luck keeping up. It's a losing battle.

Only if you are both on the same side of the stage.

Yeah my mate Chris is exactly the same.

I still don't understand why he thinks a valve amp is less repairable than a modeller though? It's absolute nonsense.

Just emailed Nik about a smallbox JVMJS clone. I am sure it's not doable. Never hurts to ask though! :wat:LOL:
JVM is one of the most complex circuits of any amp ever with the relay network. I’d be amazed if Nik can knock one up for any less than buying a used one (unless you just settle on a mode or 2 from it).

Everybody, please listen to this very wise friend! Those old tube amps are not worth owning at all!

Nik’s jose/Fortin style ones will rip more faces than a JVM
If it's only one thing folks would pick them for, that's gotta be 100% it: Ceriatone nails the hot-rodded Marshall tones. Their other stuff is supposedly great too (Dumble inspired, Fenders and they seem to have a SLO build now with custom trannies just for it).
I was able to pick up JVMs at good prices over here but decided to go Ceriatone.
