Yeah, I think it's probably needed to even out the break angle (and maybe the tension) at the back of the locking nut so there's solid contact. Although I haven't tried one without it so I can't say it's not necessary either?Floyd Rose string retainer..
Yes or no ?
Is it required ?
edit: Ok, this build needs the string retainer. My Dean ML with a Floyd does not have the retainer, but it's a tilt-back headstock. This not being a tilt-back design.. it's gonna need the retainer to get the strings aligned correctly before they go to the tuners.
I fixed my washing machine after watching a YouTube video..I wouldn't just for the astetics.. but I know jack turkey about floyds
Their only use is to keep the strings seated in the locking nut so they your strings don’t go sharp when locking it down. So, definitely yes.Floyd Rose string retainer..

I just watched a video of a guy on YouTube doing it..Their only use is to keep the strings seated in the locking nut so they your strings don’t go sharp when locking it down. So, definitely yes.
Looking like a ripper!I just watched a video of a guy on YouTube doing it..
He strung up the guitar first, left the strings a little loose, then used the strings as his guide to locate the retainer.
Could you just tune it slightly flat to compensate?Their only use is to keep the strings seated in the locking nut so they your strings don’t go sharp when locking it down. So, definitely yes.
I guess you could, but ain’t nobody got time for that.Could you just tune it slightly flat to compensate?
Guessing you've already copyrighted "teh Shit-O-Caster"Could you just tune it slightly flat to compensate?
I'd assume once the strings are locked it doesn't do anything
